I have to disagree with the last review. I don't find the piano pingy, and I find Laredo's playing enjoyable and refreshing. The last reviewer probably learned that it wasn't a Steinway she plays (it's a Baldwin) and immediately thought that it must not be a good piano. Whatever. This is a great way to get started with Scriabin. It covers his career from when he was virtually imitating Chopin (in Sonata 1) to his most experimental pieces (Sonata 6 and 9, Vers la flamme). I've listened to this album over and over, and don't get tired of it.

this disc almost made me hate scriabin. laredo's playing and the awful, pingy piano completely fail to capture scriabin well, her technique clearly struggles at several points, and her interpretations lack vigor or originality. i dont mean to sound overly harsh, but it is what is it. id recommend horowitz, hamelin, or sofronitsky for scriabin. unfortunately, itunes's scriabin selection is sometimes lacking.
