One of the best bands from the 1990's. The Real Thing is a masterpiece. I've been REALLY wanting them to make more music. FINALLY we have a new album. Haven't heard it yet, but I bought it based on most of the good reviews. Rock on one of my favorite bands from that era. Make MORE music dudes. Your fans will buy it.

I love this album. Several of the songs have made my Faith No More playlist. I like this album and many of their other songs, and even their covers.Buy this album and then go looking for them playing “easy,” “midnight cowboy,” “this guys in love with you,” and “I started a joke.”

Furiously riffing and wildly wacky as only FNM can be. A real surprise at how well this album turned out based on the last effort.
  • Better than no new album atleast

I have always loved Faith No More. One of the best bands of all time. However, this seems ok to me at best. A handfull of good ones, and a few not so good ones. I would love to hear a more heavier one on the next one....if they decide too!

This is their best or worst is surprising. Those that say it's their best are probably so excited FNM is back they're not being objective. Mixed. Its at best good, not better. "Seperation Anxiety" is awesome, up there with their best work. Killer FNM groove yet doesn't feel like a rehash. "Superhero" does sound like one, straight out of the KFAD era, but I like it. Maybe cuz that album has plenty of weaker songwriting itself. Some songs are forgettable, sound unfinished. Agree it's too short and safe, especially considering they were away for so long. Those that say it's no AD are right, (it rarely if never hits those heights) but thats not necessarily bad. That's one of my all time favorite albums, but I don't need them to remake it. Hopefully they can do better on the next one, if they actually make it.

I give this album 4 stars, because as an unapologetic homer for what has been my favorite band since Epic dropped when I was a junior in high school, I have to hold myself accountable to being somewhat objective. Is it is good as Angel Dust, or The Real Thing? Unequivocally, the answer is no. Those 2 records were transcendent, with Angel Dust holding up as an example to all what kind of uncommon creativity and integrity this band has. However, if you have kept up with the members of this band over the years through their interviews, and if you understand anything about what it is that makes them tick, you would know that there was no way that they would ever reassemble to make Angel Dust part 2, or make any attempt to retread on ground they had already covered. They don't think that way. If you truly "get" this band, then you have to embrace the eclectic nature of their offerings. Sol Invictus is a good album. The guys seem fully engaged on this one, line they all actually want to be there and it comes through in the music. Sure, if you find yourself gravitating towards FNM's heavier tracks over the years, you may be disappointed with this one, but if you truly admire their cleverness in mixing styles and conjuring up the unexpected, you will be pleased with this. If you love Faith No More you can't hold onto them too tightly, because they will defy convention and shatter your expectations at some step along the way, and that is a good thing. Let go of what you think they "should" be making and take a second to truly listen to what they are telling you about who they are as a band today. The music on this record gets even better when you think of the reconciliation it brought amongst the members. Truly a great story and truly a solid and enjoyable listen. Give it a try.

There are very few highlights on this album. Most of it is just garbage. There is no groove, no flow, and the songwriting is piss poor. After years of waiting for a new album, this was a major disappointment. They should have done better.
