  • Correct impression of music, wrong identity of artwork mistake

The picture is Richard Bona, not Hiram Bullock. Hiram was a guitarist, not a bassist, and I don't think he figured on any Steps albums. Bona is a bassis, but wasn't even on the scene in 83, so no idea where this bogus artwork was conjured up. The other reviewer got it right on the music, and the fact that the artwork was unrelated to this performance. Just trying to correctly identify who is in the picture, and who Hiram actually was. The electric bassist who first replaced Eddie Gomez was Victor Bailey, and then later Jeff Andrews, and Baron Browne.

This is an amazing album by an outstanding group of musicians and is a must have for any Brecker fan. There is one major flaw though. Whoever produced this album failed to do their research. The album art is all wrong. This artwork shows Hiram Bullock, a sensational bass player and one who did indeed play with Steps Ahead. However, Mr. Bullock did not start playing with them until the Magnetic album, which was recorded in 1986. The bass player on this recording is Eddie Gomez, who doesn't even play electric bass! The entire recording was done on upright which makes this photograph even more ridiculous. And if you look closely, there's a soprano sax on a stand next to Mr. Bullock. At no point in this recording does Brecker play soprano. This clearly was not shot at a Steps Ahead concert in Denmark in 1983. So do yourself a favor, buy the album, but immediately change the artwork! Seriously? Do a little research next time!
