  • Good but not them

I liked this album, although it's my least favorite out of all of them. I felt they got talked into "new age" sound. They should just stick with their roots. Their lyrics were still just as beautiful, but the techno sound was disappointing.
  • Still TATE, but

different, from what they were and what ever else is on the radio. And thenk heavens for that...can you imagine if the Beatles got stuck on "Love Me Do" or if U2 never made Achtung Baby? Evolve or die...I love this next step. The band is still doing it their way, and that's what makes their music

I've been following ABTE since their first album. I'm in my sixties, so for me their music is a departure from my classic rock roots, but I have to tell you, I love this group. Each album and I have them all has more than one gem, usually at least 5 maybe six. On Dope Machines, I have 7 gems, each a masterpiece. I would expect a group to mature and ABTE has done that. Take a listen, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times to catch the meaning, the energy of the song and the dynamics of the musicians. The base in these selections is an obvious change. For me, this album is fantastic, for some reason I relate to this group. By the way NEDA by ABTE is a must have song. It's a tribute to the young woman gunned down during the 2009 Iranian protests. I was and still am moved by the song every time I hear it.
  • They are better than this

These lyrics are so far below what Mikel is capable of. I actually think they can pull off the electronica thing. I’m just so disappointed in the predictable lyrics and lack of building/swooning music to match a mood. Doesn’t move me like they used to.
  • Too much techno.

Why all of this techno?!!? I like this album, but don't love it like the rest of their albums.

I’ve been a huge Airborne fan for a long time. I have always loved their brand of music. I understand that bands want to change and grow but not all growth is good (just ask cancer). The album is not bad. The group is simply too talented to let that happen. But perhaps the most damning thing that could be said is that large swaths of the album are utterly generic. None of the unique TATE sounds (I really miss the strings). The four songs that open are strong (and even better live). After that the drop off is pretty steep. I’d suggested buying those and pretend it’s an EP.

I am the hugest fan of TATE and found myself loving this new sound from them. I received an e-mail from the band announcing this album was a mostly electronic/synth-driven/beat-driven record, and so I was aware that their new record would be different. I have listened to this record countless times and I barely notice the differences because the lyrics and subject matter are similar to their older songs albeit with a different sound. It is a wonderful sound, and I enjoy everything they put out. I highly recommend this album if you are a dedicated fan such as myself. It is a lovely piece of work.

I like their new songs - different but still amazing. Saw them play dope machines live last night and it was great- especially Chains! Great great band

Just awful, they sound like Imagine Dragons now (not a good thing)

One of my favorite new bands, so I tried and tried to like this album. But I can't do it. It's also disturbing that their sound changed as they went to a major label.
