What a brilliant mind! I am not a big fan of SNL and so did not know about this fantastic wit. I'm sure her talents were not displayed appropriately. I will spread the word about this marvelous woman to everyone I know. Her intelligent interpretation of life as she experiences it should be studied by all mankind. What a brave and courageous human being!

Mom's going through cancer treatment as we speak and we both laughed ourselves silly over this. It's touching and wonderful. This is special. Thanks for sharing Julia!
  • Best Storyteller Since Spalding Gray

Although I think her later performance on Letting Go of God is more polished, this monologue is definitely worth buying. Without ever getting schmaltzy or melodramatic, she tells the story of her brother's cancer, and then her own, managing throughout to find humor and meaning inside tragedy. The whole theme of this album is about laughing through tears, which I often found myself doing while listening to the stories here. Julia Sweeney is fast becoming a great storyteller in the vein of greats like Spalding Gray and David Sedaris. I hope she continues to do these shows.

This album is so perfect I can not believe it. Sweeney is not just a comic genius but also a master storyteller. The whole album is a story that Sweeney crafts meticulously to every last detail. She truly finds the comedy and the tragedy in everyday life. There is both very funny and sad at the same time and Sweeney gives each topic the respect it deserves. This is hilarious I would recommend this to anyone who wants a laugh.

Ms. Sweeney's work is wonderful - witty, poignant. However, beware that several of the tracks are cut short by iTunes. It might be preferable to buy the actual CD to avoid this.

So if you have cancer... or if you know anyone who has cancer... or if you know anyone who knows someone who has cancer... OR... if you know anyone you just needs a brilliant laugh -- BUY THIS. Julia Sweeney steps out of her SNL box and takes us on a journey and tells us an amazing tale that we NEVER KNEW happened. It will make you take a step-back... and look at your life... and find laughter among the tears. I'm surprised this wasn't at LEAST nominated for a Grammy. It's THAT good ! ! "I laughed. I cried. I paid $13.99... for a life-changing CD in the comedy section.

I first listened to Julia's one woman show when I was driving across country. I was immediately drawn in by her gentle wit, warm and inviting presence (even on CD), her intelligence, and of course, her bravery in putting together such a personal and touching show. Having lost a sibling to cancer, and having a crazy family to boot, I could relate in so many ways. I have told everyone I know about this and they all agree it is brilliant. Downlad it, you won't be sorry.

Would it be rude to say that this was a lot better than I thought it would be? Unlike most of her SNL alumni who tell jokes, Julia Sweeney tells stories. I hate to sound cliche, but I laughed, I cried, I liked it a lot. Most fortunately for the album, "Pat" is hardly even mentioned. I definitely recommend this one woman show to anyone who likes one woman shows.
