To love somebody is an amazing song! It's that signature Johnny A tone, beautiful inverted chords, great melody. But I'm not sure what happened with the rest of the album. Not digging the new tone and generic rock-a-billy sound on every other tune. Still some really great licks and chord melodies in there but you have to listen hard and get past the flat, un-dynamic sound of this album. Still one of my favorite players but this one didn't do it for me.

I'm disappointed with the new cd and I think it's the Peter principle at work. He produced the new cd and boasts that no microphones were used. While I can't say that if he used mics it would have been better, he has proven that he needs a producer (and pro engineer). Sonically it's flat and musically it's flat too. I find the first couple CDs very satisfying and listen to them all the time but this one is a dud. You tried it and it didn't work, now get back to what did work. We all need to know our limits.

After a ten year wait for another brilliant studio record, I gotta say this isn't what I'd hoped for. "Sometime Tuesday Morning" is a moon shot. "Get Inside" orbits the earth. "Driven" doesn't make it out of the neighborhood.

Johnny A. always surprises you with his musical shifts and never disappoints. Just when you think you know what “box” he is in, he makes a unexpected musical turn. This 3rd studio album is a giant leap forward for him in his songwriting, arranging and production (exceptional clarity and depth on this recording). Not to mention his guitar playing and tone(s) are just fantastic. Check out this album, you won’t be disappointed.

Johnny A is a musician who knows his craft well. Driven puts Johnny's guitar a little more on top of the mix, and he sounds great as he explores new grooves with his songwriting.
  • Nice sound!

Johhny A may not have the vision or technical skills of a Satriani or Di Meola, but he does what he does very well. There are several excellent tunes, making it an enjoyable effort. He reminds me a little of a less quirky Danny Gatton. There's plenty of guitar crunch and drama, along with a feel for how to milk a good, melodic hook.

This record really shows how Johnny A has grown as an Artist, Producer and Musician. Johnny takes you on a exciting and magical journey through this heart and soul. This record is PURE Johnny A…There is so much complexity to the layers of beautiful sound that I am hearing when I put this on. I am excited and energized to hear track after track, and never get lost or bored. The instrumentation is fantastic, and this is showcases a new level of musicianship that we never experienced from him. I really love how he is now incorporating new instruments in his palette to paint a completely new landscape that takes us on a cinematic musical journey. Wow. Totally Amazed!!!

What happened? Where's the smart licks? Haunting chord combinations and inversions? This sounds like a High School band putting out their first demo. No trills, no harmonization, no emotion. Nothing at all like his previous efforts that blessed the listener with unique and brilliant melodies and raunchy powerful choruses. Very very plain. I've waited too long for this new album. Now he's retiring? Shame in you, Johnny. Perhaps the worst swan song (songs) I've ever heard.
