This album is appropriately named, The VERY Best of Chopin, which it is. Each of the peices is melodic, and beautiful. I have high praise for the pianist, Idil Biret, who preformed this! Brava to both artist and Composer. This peice is definitely a buy for all piano lovers.

I agree with some of the previous comments about the sound: - 'tonally hollow' and 'a little ... echoy' Somebody had the reverberation control cranked up too high for my tastes. It was most obvious in a few spots in the 'Berceuse' music. I can't really give the album a high rating because of this flaw. I'm the type that 'the more I hear it - the more it bugs me'. I would not have made the purchase if I had heard these problems before hand.

I consider Frederic Chopin to be one of the greatest composers and piano players to date, the vast ranges of emotion and imagination evoked when listening to his work. A must for any classical library. A great recording and playing.
  • Buy it!

This album is definately one of the best i've heard of Chopin, if you're looking for some good soothing music try downloading the Nocturnes, they are extremelly well done.

As a pianist myself, I commend anyone who takes joy in playing the difficulties of Chopin.

The pieces chosen for this album are excellent. On the otherhand, Idil Biret is nowhere near in quality as Yevgeny Kissin is. If you are looking for a true proffesional pianist, I do not reccomend this album.
  • An overall excellent album.

A few minor critiques- the quality of the piano recording was tonally "hollow" on some pieces. The artist's interpretation of the well-known Fantasie Impromptu seemed excessively stacatto in a few places. On the whole, an excellent collection of music, well performed.
