the thing about this is that it is kind of funny, but i think at the same time it's kind of sad/pathetic. fulks seems a little bitter that even though fountains of wayne songs stick to a simple formula quite often when writing their songs, their stuff is better received than his, and in my opinion just better in general. fulks tries for a roger miller/shel silverstein kind of vibe, but to me usually ends up a little closer to an alt. country weird al. fountains of wayne's stab at a country song from "welcome interstate managers," "hung up on you," is far better than any song fulks has put to wax.

I really think fountains of wayne would really love this song. its exactly what they do and they know it. i love fountains and love this song, both brilliant.

Fulks nails this on the head! Hilarious, adept and astute.

The McMillan Dictionary publishes a small pocket dictionary every year Celebrating their favorite newly added words of the year. In 2005 they had the entry 'earworm.' It basically means an infectious catchy song. You can also call an earworm an 'FOW,' or Fountain of Wayne. Fountains of Wayne are able to make anythinig catchy. Robbie Fulks fused his ability as a songwriter using wit and irony to make something more than a song; he more or less created a musical experience fun for the whole family-especially those who are fans of FOW and Fulks. I am a fan of both and I was surprised to see Fulks give FOW props in his music. For those who are not musicians or FOW lovers might have a hard time catching on to the song, but to those who are longtime fans will enjoy it.

I purchased this tune based on the title alone. I'm a fan of Robbie Fulks wonderful lyrics, when I saw that he's turned his attention to another of my favorites, FOW, I had to see what it was about. The song is a parody of the FOW song-style. Not only does it show the FOW formula, it also succeeds in making what would be one of the best FOW songs (had it been written or performed by them.) Thanks for the laugh Robbie.

This song is awesome! I thought it would just be another stupid country song, but it's pretty funny. Very clever. Definately gets me interested in Robbie Fulks!

If you are a Robbie Fulks fan, you'll crack up over his dead on take on the Fountains of Wayne. If you're a Fountains fan, you'll appreciate it just as much.
  • Country isn't pretty, but it is funny

I laughed out loud the first time I heard this in concert and laughed again when I downloaded the track. Nothing against FoW, which I think does a great job channelling early Cars and certainly know how to craft a memorable hook, but Robbie nailed it with this one. It's parody, but not in the goofy Weird Al Yankovic way. Good fun for Fulks fans and pop music fans as well
  • Not just gratuitous brilliance...
