- Best Trio Ever

This trio is by far the best one out there. They all manage to put ego and "looking good" aside to collectively create the most beautiful (in a large creative sense, I don't mean light and fluffy) music out there today.

This is classic Mehldau in the sense that much of it contains old songs in new time signatures and feels, like Radiohead's "Knives Out" or Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." It is a great album, extremely recommended. It's nice to hear this trio with Jeff Ballard on drums. Jorge Rossy always was a nice supplement to Mehldau, but Ballard is a great touch to the trio.

This is a fine record- much in the same character as the recent trio records. Perhaps an improvement in the drums on this one, even. The songs have a lost beauty to them and the arrangements are spectacular.
Get it. There are few folks around doing what he does this well.

As Mehldau fans have come to expect, this is a solid combination of originals, covers and standards, showing Mehldau's excellent improvisations, and his tight trio (with a new drummer for this album). The iTunes version contains two extra songs that are not on the CD, so, as for the Live in Tokyo album, the extras make it even more worthwhile.
