This album will always stand out in my mind as the definitive Bette Midler. As a teenager, my childhood sweetheart and I saw Beaches. (25 years and counting.) It was my introduction to Bette, and the Beaches soundtrack was my first purchase, with this being my second. This album was the score to my childhood. Late nights sitting on a swing in the park with my headphones in, turned low while I slept, or just on in the background for the sheer joy of it... These things made me a Midler fan, and every few months I check to see if she's got a new album out. This is Midler gold in every way. A strong second is her album Bette of Roses. Midler is different from almost every other singer, and if you've never heard her, I urge you to give this album a try. If you're already a Midler fan, and don't own this album... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! LOL Click BUY and enjoy. That's my $.02 folks. Thanks! Clair

This album was the first Bette Midler cd I ever owned... actually, I owned the cassette first. It wasn't long after this that I ended up buying the Beaches soundtrack as well (also on cassette). Some People's Lives, however, in my opinion, is one of Bette's best releases. Everything from the gorgeous cover to the music itself brings back such fond memories. My favorite tracks are: Night And Day, Miss Otis Regrets, Moonlight Dancing, From A Distance and All Of A Sudden. If I had to choose a least favorite it would be Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most, but it too, is a good song. If you are a fan of Bette, you owe it to yourself to familiarize yourself with this album.

This was my first Bette cassettes when I was growing up, and loved it! I remember it was here that I heard From A Distance, and always dreamed of going on Star Search with that song. Since then I wore out the tape, and the CD. Now I will always have it on my hard drive:-) Thank You Bette for your wonderful music!

This album was my introduction to Bette Midler when I was about three or four years old. It's one of the first albums that I have stamped into my memory. That was in the days of cassettes going out of style and CDs were becoming the big thing. My mom had this on CD, and I always took out her music and listened to it, but this has always been one of those personal favorites that stuck. Now, with iTunes and everything, I got a chance to preview her other albums. I was shocked that this particular album was so low popularity-wise. Maybe it's just that I have a connection to this album dating back to childhood, I don't know; but there sure is something amazing about it. Some People's Lives is alluring and very multi-faceted. This album cheers me up and I absolutely love it, life wouldn't be the same without it. Definitely up there on my top-ten list. I recommend One More Round, Miss Otis Regrets, Moonlight Dancing, The Gift Of Love, and the best, ALL OF A SUDDEN!
- A One Hit Wonder??

I must disagree with the opening review that this cd contains only one hit. This cd, Bette's most successful commercial release, contains three radio hits, "Night And Day," "From A Distance," and "The Gift Of Love." Bette's vocals on all the tracks is spot on and while the over-production marks time a bit this cd is still an excellent listen.
- a wonderful introduction to bette midler

I was first introduced to Bette with this album when I was twelve. I was transfixed by the shear fun of it all, and absolutely loved Miss Otis Regrets. This is an album that I think everyone should have along with Bathhouse Bette. Buy it ... don't copy it!

My wife and I have listened to this wonderful album for many years; wore out one cassette and now have it etched in my hard drive of my laptop! This is Bette at her best we think and since Beaches, my wife has been hooked on Bette!
