I heard "Is it like today" on an episode of "The Finder" and I really liked the sound. As I listened to the lyrics of some of the songs, I quickly grew tired of the political slant. Music has always been an escape for me so I'll just move on. I won't find Paradise in this Hotel.

"Borderline" was Genius recommendation purchased on a whim. It is a great song: lyrics, music, and, most of all, Ms Gilkyson's voice! Great! I will buy the whole album!

Although I only recently discovered Requiem, it is quite simply one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. Ever.

You can count yourself lucky if every year you discover one artist from out of the blue that instantly makes it to your favorites list. Eliza Gilkyson is my "Can't believe I've missed out on" artist of 2006. She has a unique sound. Her backup band is a fusion of old-timey and modern country, and her voice, well, what a voice. She is quite a chameleon, with one song being dead ringer for Lucinda Williams, the next Gillian Welch, and with a guest shot from Enya. But she makes them all her own. Her songwriting will occasionally make you cry, but it will almost always remind you of a long discussion into the night with a good friend and a good bottle of whiskey. Check out "Is it like today". A warning, if you do, you will be buying her whole cataolgue soon!

I stumbled onto this gifted vocalist while reading of her father, Terry, of the The Easy Riders. What a find! Her voice is like silky smoke and the lyrics are so very beautiful. I'm sorry one of Ws fans was offended by artists who express political views, but that's typical of the Bushies---no one can criticize W without being smeared. "Man of God" is a brilliant biting condemnation of all that's wrong with this administration. Borderline is a wonderfully poigiant tune. The rest is delightful. Will be searching for more of her cds on ITUNE.Dave
  • Marketing by Politicizing

I really get tired of musicians and or music publishers basing their songs and politics on limited information and inuendo. There is all probability that Eliza doesn't know a hill of beans about George Bush's personal faith. Now this wouldn't really matter to me since she can write and sing whatever she wants. However, the marketing plug attached to this release makes a strident point of highlighting her politics and viewpoint even summoning up the anti-Bush symbology of the Dixie Chicks incident. So Red House Records, are you interested in music or market segmentation based on political affiliation??? Why oh why can't you just make good music and let it stand or fall on it's merits as music. If I agree than I will like it alot. If I disagree I might still like it because it makes me think or is just a good song. But you won't leave it at that, you have to shove it in my face. Well, shove it yourself

I was browsing through Itunes and I notice Shawn Colvin which I do have her greatest hits collection on cd as of right now. I was just curious to see what Itunes have in their collection so I looked up Shawn Colvin. What I found besides her was Eliza Gilkyson. It did not dawn on me until I went to Eliza Gilkyson's site that Shawn Colvin sang in the song Calm Before the Storm. Okay!! On to her album!! :) What I love about her album... her voice has such passion in what she sings and it does not overwhelm you which even makes it better!!! I'm glad I found this accident.. :)

I recently found Eliza and have been moved ever since. Amazing lyrics that are political, emotional, spiritual and visceral. I can't wait to see her at the Cactus Cafe in Austin to applaud her. We need more artists like her who aren't afraid of using song as a way to discuss modern American issues. I highly recommend this album. Check out Borderline, Requiem, and Man of God.
