Shelton Williams is true country, and always pays his respects to the past through his music. Even though he vehemently disliked Curb, the label that he recorded this album on, and thought that this album was over produced and commercial, it's still sounds fresh today, and is one of my personal favorites. You will not regret picking up this collection of songs.
"Straight to Hell" is another, arguably better collection: even more traditional and raw, it's stripped-down country that bores right to the center of your soul.
Anyway you slice it, Hank III is a musical force that has never received the accolades that he deserves. I would love to see him do more collaborations with artists like Wayne Hancock, Marty Stuart, Leroy Troy, and other older performers as he has done in the past (check out YouTube for some of his past work with these artists).
Keep making the music that you, and we all love, Shelton.
Thank you.

I don't particularly care for Hank 3's explicit albums, but this one sure is my kind of taste: old fashioned and root-sy. And all of Hank's albums, regardless of my taste, have a real country sound. Keep going Hank!!

Nobody years it up like this young man here! Talent talent talent & then some!!
Just take a listen & you'll be hooked!
Don't have a favorite 3 album --- they're all unique & back to the roots mixed with his own compilation of experimental sounds & nothing can come close to his originality!! Love all the talent each musician brings to each & every track!! Looking forward to this next go round in 2013!
Keep it real Mr. 3 ... & Thanku!

This is a great album, not as good as Straight to Hell, which in my opinion is the best modern country album. You ca nreally hear all of Hank III's influences here, especially Wayne the Train. Hank covers 2 of the Train's songs on here and knocks em out of the park. "I don't know" has the outlaw feel to it, while "Your the reason" is a weeper that Hank sr could sing. You can still tell that Hank III was being muscled by the label to do more accessible stuff and tone down the lyrics, but for a debut it is pretty impressive. If you are a fan of real honky tonk music buy this album and crank it loud.

Love his older stuff. Not a fan of what Hank 3 has become though. He's gotten way to dark for me. Got this album actually before it came out, worked in a record store and got it in a promo package. That disk was always in the changer playing a couple of times a day. Still listen to it often. If the Shoe Fits, Honkey Tonk Girls, and Why Don't You Leave Me Alone are the best songs on here. And he and the band do a great job covering a couple of Wayne Hancock songs. If you ever get a chance to go see Hank play live, he puts on a crazy good show. Be sure to check out Lovesick Broke & Driftin' and Straight To Hell albums.
