  • gorgeous music + acoustic!

This album matches the haunting plainsong and organum/polyphony with the gorgeous accoustic of Notre Dame. Great buy!
  • Beautiful recording

The voice and sound on Beata Viscera warrant all 5 stars. If you listen to it on good speakers you can hear the rain falling outside the cathedral, and they really captured the acoustics and feel of hearing this music as intended in a cathedral. This track is absolutely gorgeous.
  • Ignorant reviewer above. Hear this music approximately how it would have sounded ca. 1300.

This recording was made in Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Notre Dame School of composing is exemplified by these two fine polyphonic composers. One would think this is pretty authentic considering it was written for spaces exactly like this, if not this actual location. The acoustical effect - faithfully rendered in the recording - is exactly what makes this kind of polyphony so interesting. But what do I know.....

I bought a copy and the recording is substandard. Too much distortion!!! I would like a refund.
