I spent the last 45 years as a Pink Floyd fan confident that Gilmore was The Guitarist. This band and this album have shot that theory to hell. This is without question, the best album I own.
  • Set The Standard

Though the Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers were making country music and getting more notoriety about it, this is the album that set the standard. A country/rock and roll band that paired up with some of the legends of the Country and Western music scene and they fit each other like a glove. No false pretensions on either sides part to gain a new or a wider audience. Pure love and understanding of the genre makes this a classic album, that openned a lot of eyes of younger "rock" audience members at the time. First time many younger people were introduced to the music of Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, Mother Maybelle Carter, Roy Acuff, and Doc Watson. Pure love of country and western music allowed the Dirt Band to join up with these giants and become their equals throughout the album, instead of mere sidemen.

I met Phil in a GM tranmission plant near Detroit, we talk music, he know a lot, Root Boy Slim, and He turn me on to this album. I d love it so much, I can sing along with most songs. He was a DJ at a collage in Ohio, very knowledgable in stuff I would get to know because of Him. I lost track of Him and Ruth, in the 32.8 years at the Plant. Thanks Phil for lending me this album, and to the front row seats at Willies show in Ann Arbor 1978 or so. But this Dirt Band is still one of my favorites, going on 40 years.

The talent that was brought together for this project in 1972 is almost beyond comprehension. With most of them now residing in Glory Land, it's amazing to listen to the tracks- you can almost picture them chatting, laughing, and laying down some of the most amazing music EVER! It's a steal at $19.00!!

for anyone that wants to tap into the roots of country music this album is a must. old timey/country/bluegrass standards covered by many of the artist that defined the genre from the begining. unbielvable talent only comparable to the group of artist in The Last Waltz concert, and the songs are amazingly well done and entertaining. recomend to music fan able to think outside the box and appreciate talent regardless of genre, you will be impressed!
