If you’ve come to love the voice of Justin Jarvis on previous releases like Harbour Live’s “Here We Are” and Jesus Culture’s “Emerging Voices,” you'll be happy to know that this is the best he’s sounded yet. And if it’s your first time happening across his name, you can expect to hear a worshiper’s heart that’s filled with trust and wonder. (And a great voice.) “Born of God” is a gentle song about Jesus’ sacrifice. The song is delivered with beautiful simplicity and a lot going on beneath the surface. As Justin sings, “You bore the weight of what I never could,” you’ll pick up on more than only praise and thankfulness. Throughout the whole song, you can feel the peace of a human heart at rest, recovering from a heaviness that it no longer needs to carry. “Rivers (Turn the Tide)” may be my favorite song on the EP. This song is an interesting double whammy, because it’s clearly a celebration song of victory, but also basically a war anthem in the spirit. So it’s filled with a kind of...peaceful urgency. (That'll make more sense when you give it a listen.) All in all, this is a beautiful EP, and I hope a full-length album won't be far behind.
