Let me start off by saying that The Showdown are very talented, especially for a band that signed with Solid State Records. SSR is not a bad label, however I feel that the majority of their artists that have (had) made it big are absolutely NOT great at all (Underoath, Oh Sleeper, Norma Jean, etc). The only awesome artists they ever signed were/are Becoming The Archetype, The Famine, Extol, As They Sleep, and a few others that I have forgotten at the moment. The Showdown demonstrate their musical skills in each album by making each one unique and with a different style. For example, their first full length had many death metal/metalcore elements while their second was more of an alternative/progressive album. This album returns to the heavyness which now focuses on hardcore/death metal but without blast beats and super fast drumming, haha. Their fourth full length is more of a thrash metal album. Unfortunately, I am a metal kind of person so I do not own the second album, yet I am sure some folks will enjoy it. Do not miss out in this band, they are truly one of a kind. They sort if remind me of Embodyment, an awesome band who started out as a death metal band and ended up as an alternative rock band (Opeth, anyone?). I hope that If they do make another album, The Showdown will stick to the heavy side of music, heck It would be awesome if they did a full-on death metal album!!! Only one can imagine :P
