I can’t speak to this movie (though I’m assuming greatness due to the Coens and Oscar Isaac), but I can speak to the soundtrack. Oscar Isaac himself has a background in the modern folk scene, and thus performs his songs very well. There are, as well, MANY folk veterans such as Marcus Mumford and Chris Thile. Everyone on this album is a spectacular musician, the arrangements are phenomenal, and the songs themselves are great picks for the movie’s subject matter.

Most of these songs ARE NOT the same as the ones in the film. "Shoals of Herring" is noticeably shorter. Carey Mulligan's vocal take is different on "100 Miles" and the addition of the Punch Brothers on certain tracks pushes the songs into country/bluegrass rather than folk. Why did they have to mess them up?

My only complaint with this album is that Oscar Isaac doesn't sing enough. I love it.

just by listening to this album a few times, its turned into my favorite movie soundtrack, apart from perks of being a wallflower’s soundtrack. possibly one of my favorite albums ever. wonderfully simple melodies that convey complex emotions and feelings.
