I'm a new fan of Bob Reynolds. I'm starting with a few tracks on this album, but will likely return for others. I love Bob's sound, and I think he's one if the more exciting newer players today.
What I like most so far about his playing is that he doesn't sound like he's trying to cram as many notes as possible through his horn just for show. I think he has a lyricism about his playing that makes his playing feel more intertwined with the soul where it should be. Enjoying these finds and hope to hear more Bob to come.

Though I bought the album nearly a month ago in pre-sales, I knew that I needed to indoctrinate myself on an afternoon when I could dedicate the full 59 minutes and 20 seconds to doing nothing but listening. I am so glad I did. What a journey. Incredible musicianship! Astounding arrangements! Soulful, artful, masterful in every way. Exceptional for the ears, food for the soul. This is an incredible album to listen to, both as a solo activity or to leave on in the background while working, hosting a dinner party or reading the Sunday Times. A must have for your music collection. I'm so glad there is a Bob Reynolds in the world who understands the importance of making technically superb and complex music accessible and enjoyable for the masses. It sounds so easy, but what they have done here is nothing short of genius! You guys nailed it!

I've been enjoying Bob's music since he released Can't Wait for Perfect. I've been listening to Somewhere In Between everyday since its release and I discover something new with every listen. I encourage you to listen to the album as an album: from beginning to end. It's like a great movie: each song builds off of one another. Leading up to Somewhere In Between are a number of live albums (Live in New York, A Live Life, Live at Cafe Cordial) that show him working on the songs for Somewhere In Between. I love that Bob explored the songs for several years to put together the perfect album for us to enjoy.
- AMAZING.

After listening to Bob's live albums for the past few years, it's an incredible thing to finally hear studio versions of some of my favorite songs! So glad he was finally able to release it.

As a saxophone player, there are groups whose concert tickets or CDs I will purchase simply because of the sax player in that band. Some examples, are Boz Scaggs when Charles McNeal plays with him, fDeluxe with the impeccable Eric Leeds, and John Mayer, to hear Bob Reynolds.
One can tell from listening to Bob that he has studied all of the great players that have gone before him, and that he has progressed to evolve his “own thing.” However, as great a saxophone player as Bob is, this recording proves that he is an even better composer/arranger. When was the last time you purchased a CD and enjoyed every single track on it? “Somewhere In Between” is one of these rare CDs.
From the subdued “Creep,” which opens the CD like a flower unfolding at the early dawn’s light, to the closing track, “Closer,” which sounds like something Michael Brecker would compose, there isn’t a clunker in this beautifully written and executed CD. The second track “Feedback,” is the most commercial track on the tune. It has a wonderful groove and energy to it. The groove is as if someone took a classic Blue Note recording and married it with the contemporary times. The next track, “The Beginning,” starts with contemporary, almost pop/rock chords, but is deftly handled by Bob’s lead playing, which is very nuanced. It’s the perfect tune for putting on in the car and driving down the road when you are by yourself. The feel is very thought-provoking and the song builds to a beautiful climax. Again, evoking something Michael Brecker might have composed. “Halocen” starts out with guitar and piano leading the way and then includes some deft and restraint playing by Bob. It’s a very nice tune but probably my least favorite on the album. The rest of the CD is killer though. “What She Didn’t Say,” left me speechless with its beautiful piano opening and Bob’s soaring sax. I forgot the last time a song moved me this much. “Rise And Fall,” is simply a killer. From it’s bluesy piano opening to its rough and tumble end, it’s an intricately woven and executed composition, which really shows Bob’s maturity as a song writer. This is why the world is full of players and not composers...this tune is just sick, but in a beautiful way. “A Love Story (In Three Cities)” is a song that you will want to put on before retiring at the end of hard day. I listen to this song and know that even though we cannot control how the world unfolds, everything will be alright with the world. “Everlong” has a different, contemporary feel to it, but it is a very positive and uplifting tune. “Phalanx,” is another gem from this CD. Bob makes wonderful use of tension in this tune, very much like John Coltrane did in “A Love Supreme”/”Resolution.” This tune’s spiritual energy is in that wheelhouse. The guys in the band must have been spent after laying down this track. Words cannot express what a great tune this is and how much it moved me. There is also a bonus track on the CD called “622,” which I can assure you would not be bonus track on most other’s CDs…this is definitely no throwaway.
In closing, this CD is a must buy. Thank you Bob, John, Janek, and crew for making the world a much better place with this wonderful and timeless release.
