Reviews

  • Strong solo effort

Pinkerton's solo debut shares some (logical) similarities with his best work from New Radiant Storm King (as well as The Silver Jews and Pernice Brothers). His guitar work on "Blackout '77", "Popes and Kings", "On the Relay" and "Arshile Gorky" stands with the best he's done in those other bands, sounds fresh but with that same style that you'll recognize from his other work. Recommended.
  • Great to see this guitarist/songwriter come out on his own

Mr Pinkerton has been giving sonic ornamentation s to the Silver Jews, Pernice Brothers and a host of other heralded bands for years while pursuing the labor of love with New Radiant Storm King. Here we get an album that doesn't sound like a veteran in the business, but a fresh songwriter who wears his influences proudly, while interweaving thought provoking lyrics with lush soundstages that provide a great amount of ear candy to feast on. Truly a great first solo album.
