Their first three records and the follow up to this—Death Song—are all excellent. This one is tepid material.

While I do agree with Nitromike66 that it sounds like PF with Syd Barrett, I always loved his voice, this music has that psychedelic sound, & this album is for me! I was in my late teens when the "flower power" era was blooming. "Underground" music was the infancy of what became cool rock stations on FM, when the masses were still teeny-bopping along on AM radios. The Black Angels captured that sound & carried it into the future...I'd never heard of them til I heard 1 of their songs in the new SyFy show, "Hunters". I had to get at least 1 of their albums instantly, & plan to get more!

Yes it's a bit different, but that's good, they didn't loose their core sound - just made a different album in subtle ways (mostly) . I love it, I had high hopes for this and over all I feel they have been met. Holland and Broken Solider are my favorites on the album, but I liked every song, Can't wait to see them live!

This is the Black Angles best work so far. I play it every day. It's has more keyboard and organ sound, that gives it a more Psychedelic feel to it. It's groovey.
  • Great sound!

Don't miss out! This new album is filled with amazing moments and epic sounds that will resonate in your mind. Some will not give the Black Angels the time of day but they are missing out on some great music. If you have enjoyed any of The Black Angels previous music, or are contemplating this album, I recommend you try some of these songs out. I think that you will find yourself listening more and more. Great sound!

The Black Angels are a top band in their genre, and while this might not resonate as much as their previous album did with fans, it is still a superb album and another big step in their evolution as a great band. They wear their influences on their sleeves, but it doesn't drag them down, the songs are more of a synergistic integration that results in original tunes that might originate in a familiar landscape, but definitely blaze a new trail that doesn't circle back nut moves forward. The lyrics are top notch and supported by stellar musicianship. Definitely a fine addition to any music cloud .

Been a fan of the band since Passover and upon first listen of Indigo Meadow, I was a bit skeptical. However, with each subsequent listen, I grew to like the album more and more. It wasn't until I saw them play live in D.C. that I had an epiphany and this album made sense (they sound AMAZING live btw). Indigo Meadow is a giant step forward for the band. The album shows a tremendous amount of maturity and creativeness. It's different than their previous three full lengths, but is without a doubt, just as good, if not better. Whether you're a veteran or new to the Black Angels, this album will be a hot oil massage to your ear drums. And don't listen to the other reviews that try to compare this album (or the band for that matter) to some rip off of The Doors or other 60's/70's band. They are The Black Angels and they need no comparison. Just listen to it/them, and judge it solely on its/their own merit.
