Words matter, music matters and this album is a breath of fresh air in the current "glee-filled" world. "Squander" takes us back to a time when the story was more important than the spectacle. Dean Collins is a wordsmith. His thoughtful lyrics blended with a Gospel choir, church organ, guitar textures, string quartets, fiddle, mandolin, and a rock solid rhythm section make this album a complete package. Buy it now.

  • A Great Mix of Sounds and Lyrics

This album found its genesis in a recording session in Atlanta, where Dean realized how adaptive his musical stylings were...even in concert with an Atlanta gospel group. Listening to this album, I can only marvel at how far the finished product is from that first session, and how amazing each and every track sounds. Dean Collins easily moves from more high energy rock to wistful country rock duos, all the while, leaving a trail of lyrics that only a man who has piloted millions of miles, in the cockpit of international flights and various life experiences, could have contemplated. This is the kind of album a guy like me reflects on, as each track passes, "I wish I'd written that." Indeed, Dean has written from the heart. A big one at that.

It's a return to the lyricist. Thoughtful and heartfelt prose punctuate this complete work, highlighting just-right guitar foundations with unexpected Hammond organ accents and soulful backing vocals. Take a tour of some unexpected dark and sunny-bright layers. This is one of the more intriguing new artists I've never heard of, but am glad I did. Don't squander this opportunity for some fresh sounds. Cheers!
