I've always been a fan of Carbon Leaf's more Celtic inspired tracks, and this album definitely delivers on that. Expect lots of tin flute and fiddle. While they're rather energetic on almost every single song they've recorded, The Road is Breaking My Heart is melancholic and slow and, honestly, a rather welcome addition to my massive library of their music.

Joyous, confident, exuberant, layered, up-tempo, with beautiful harmonies - can't think of another band with that many voices blending so perfectly. CL does it all so well it seems effortless, but this album reflects two decades of togetherness and music-making across folk, Celtic, and rock styles - and don't forget the haunting "How the West Was One." This is a band that loves each other and loves what they do, and it shows. What a terrific album. Thanks guys!!!

Carbon Leaf can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned, and it's great to see them back to their Celtic roots. This is a great, jolly good fun album, I love it!
  • This band is awesome, like it but I am more of an Indian Summer fan

These guys are awesome as usual, like the celtic tunes but I do have to say Indian Summer is still the best. Get a little tired of the yip hip hooray swing your pints around and punch me after about 3 tunes. Still love this band though!!
  • Blown away! Mouth droppingly good!

This is honestly and potentially the best celtic album to come out since Dropkick Murphy's Going Out in Style in 2011. Seriously, better than Dropkicks's new one. And, shockingly, better than the new Gaelic Storm album which is one of my favorite celtic bands. Though The Pogues and Gaelic Storm are my favorite celtic bands, in terms of whole albums in this genre, I might put this in the top 5 celtic albums all time. They truly knocked it out of the park with this one. I first heard Life Less Ordinary and loved that song. I sampled one other CL album in Love Loss Hope, but I didnt take a shine to it. I kind've ignored them after that first song I loved. This album has sparked a total resurgence in my interest in the band. I never expected this. I LOVE the frequent use of the tin whistle! A completely under utilized instrument. Also, unlike other celtic albums from other bands, this is more mellow and relys on instrumental skill rather than deafening the listener. A skill i did not know they had. I'm always on the look out for new celtic bands and little did I know a truly great one was already lurking in my Ipod. They sound a lot like Enter the Haggis on this album. The only thing is, they sound on every single track like Enter the Haggis sounds only at their very best. Ghost Dragon is like a greatest hits album from Haggis. The lead singer's voice is not the strongest I've heard and that is partly why I didnt like Love Loss. His vocals can come off kind of boring. When utilized properly, however, and in the right genre, the result is near epic and possibly the fifth best vocalist in the celtic genre behind McGowan, Murphy from Gaelic Storm, the lead singer from Dropkick, and the lead singer from The Tossers respectively. This album has gotten me excited for the upcoming celtic festivals of the season. I can clearly feel those environments when listening to this album. This may be my go to album for celtic festivals. By the 6th song, I was floored that I had heard so many amazing tracks and i still had so much more music to go! This is instrumental perfection. You can tell that this band has true mastery over their instruments. As you can tell, I can't seem to say enough good things about this album. As for negatives, I can only muster two tiny thoughts. I don't really get the first song. I don't know how someone can be a like a bar fight song. But I may need more time to absorb the message and the lyrics. Secondly, I didn't love the song The Road is Breaking My Heart. It's very personal and impossible for me to relate to, so I have no reason to listen to it. The quality of it is also like a demo, so I had to delete it. Other than that, I sincerely pray that they take all this positive feedback they've gotten so far and consider making this genre their true calling. That would be a dream come true.

Love the lovely Leaf and was waiting for the record I knew they had in them. This record ranges from clever pub inspired revelry to revealing and confessional sorrow. It is a rare record of range and excellent musicianship that is strong from start to finish. This is a record that is not to be missed and I cannot wait to see them play this live.

....but I cannot help it on this one! I've been a CF fan for a while now, having discovered their live disks a while back, and been drawn in by both their lyrics and the power of their music. However, I'd grown slowly away from the group simply because their music had changed in a way that just didn't "fit" with me. Groups change, and I understand that totally, but yet, I missed the early sound. When I heard a teaser of what this disk could sound like, I had my fingers crossed, and purchased the day it was released. From the first song in, I was not disappointed, not one bit. I play this in my classroom, and my students love it. I played it that first day, and my daughter asks me, "Is this Carbon Leaf? I love the sound!" My wife sings along with it. Thank you. Thank you for coming back to those roots that hooked so many of us with. Thank you for making music and is both powerful and fun. And thank you for sharing those talents with us. I know I'm better for it! :)
  • Unbelievable talent in a world of pop stars and phonies!

I stumbled upon Carbon Leaf years ago when my brother picked up a CD from the local library. All I can say is that it was musical :"love at first site." My all time favorite CD is Echo Echo, and this latest CD returns to some of the celtic themes of that time. The instrumentals are great and the ballads are absolutely amazing! I find myself smiling and laughing throughout the music and highly recommend this album to the masses!
