You have to be middle aged and twice-divorced to appreciate this album for the colossus it is. This is more punk rock in spirit (and in its production) than "Dirk" because he gives zero f---s. Its scope and range are unprecedented for him. If you don't like it now, come back to it when life and love have kicked your a--. Trust, it's one of his finest.

It's one thing to be experimental. It's another altogether to just ramble and ramble. One of the things Ant always did well was to create irresistable hooks in his songs that you go away humming. Sometimes the hooks were so infectious they were almost like nursrey rhymes in nature. This release however, lacks any hook at all. Each song had me waiting for the chorus that never came.

so today I was driving an I thought about Adam Ant. I remember how I loved his music when I was 9 years old in the 80's an how my aunt gave me the strip album when I was 13. Well I know this review is late but I just found this album. I think it's one his best albums ever. Just one word AWESOME.

Last Time Adam Ant Released An Album, Chart Success Was Possible, Even Expected, So He Indulged In His Softer Side On 1993's Wonderful. Those Were Different Times. Twenty Years Later, The Music Biz Has Fractured And Adam Himself Hasn't Had An Easy Time Of Things (The Past Two Decades Were Littered With Tabloid Stories Of His Travails), And He's Decided To Seize These Two Events On The Wild, Sprawling Double-Album Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar In Marrying The Gunner's Daughter. Its Convoluted Title Refers To Adam's Early Persona, Pirate Torture, And Record Label Machinations And, Unsurprisingly, The Album Addresses All Of These Problems And More -- Including "Who's A Goofy Bunny," An Old Demo Revived As A Tribute To The Departed Malcolm Mclaren -- Channeling All These Thoughts Into Something Of A Concept Album Portraying Adam Ant As A Lone Warrior Combating The World. Or Something. It's Hard To Tell And Ultimately It Matters Little, Because Much Of The Appeal Of The Blueblack Hussar Is Its Mess, How The Adam Works Feverishly To Incorporate Any Idea He's Ever Had Into One Album.

This isn't even close to punk as some other reviews claim. It is nowhere near "Deutscher Girls," "Plastic Surgery," or anything on "Dirk Wears White Sox." I am fan of Adam, have been for 38 years, but this album is a mess. His vocals & the backing vocals sound like cats having sex in an alley. I can deal with the music, but the vocals are too distracting & all over the place. I think his first mistake was getting a band of kids to play with him. They just don't seem to get it. I think Adam should bury the hatchet & reunite with Marco, maybe even Leigh Gorman & try to tap into his talent. Those guys get it. They were in it with Adam & Marco brought out the best in Adam, musically.

He hasn't changed but the production does. His vocal skills is a bit off in few songs, a bit demo-sounding but no matter what, again, he hasn't changed. He's gone back to his roots and he's better than ever. I've been waiting for him to release an album someday and it's here. It's somewhere between the albums of ' Strip ' and ' Prince Charming ' About half of the album sound very beautiful. Some reviews i read said its a bit on ' Dirk wears white Sox'? I don't hear that anywhere cause that album, which is his first, is very dark. B-side musics are that type that sound like it: like he doesn't care if he sings it or not. Awesome.

and in my opinion its his best yet. its modern and retro and picks up on all of the promise of dirk wears white sox which i just now rediscovered (discovered actually since it never sounded this good in the us versions or had half these amazing songs. i haven't considered myself a fan of adam ant since i was in high school though i dabble in his old stuff now and again, but this album absolutely kills it. if u like dirk and actual music instead of the artifice which eventually overtook the music, then this is the album for you. final at long last, he knocks it out of the park. against all reason and prediction.
  • Definitely worth a listen & purchase!!! Welcome back Adam!

The more I listen, the more I like!!! Laptop speakers do not do the songs justice! When I plugged in and jammed the songs are great ... need good speakers for full quality sound and depth! Listen to the lyrics ... He is truly writing about his life and from the heart! Each song plays out like a story or chapter. Welcome back Adam!!!! You're a True artist! If u enjoy B sides and the older punk songs you will love this.
