Excellent big band sound. It's good to hear the wonderful big band sound of Mambo. West Side Story sound is now on the Pacific Coast. This is the best Latin recording I've heard in years.

About Pacific Mambo Orchestra's stage performances: usually, bands that play at salsa clubs are unfortunately ignored, shoved in the background amidst the plunging neck-lines and fancy shoes, men playing dangerous jumprope with women's arms, and $5 margaritas flowing at the bar. However, when Pacific Mambo Orchestra plays, dancers stop dead in their sequined-shoed tracks to watch them play. Half the floor is dancing, but the other half is starry eyed, intently watching the amazing Christian Tumalan "shred" the keytar; the meticulous technique of Omar Ledezma Jr.'s timbales; or swooning at the hands of Alexa Morales, the band's songstress with a mighty and sultry voice. About PMO's album: I'm convinced that PMO's sound is therapeutic. Experiencing their music is a whole-body ordeal: the music goes in through your ears, then out all the pores of your body; you don't know whether to jump up and down with joy, or freeze in fear of missing a single golden note that's coming at you full force. The sound is classic, but the way the songs are arranged- even the most well-known songs- is fresh, and makes you feel warm and lovely inside.. kind of like a chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven :) Their white-hot energy and expert musicianship will result in playing the album on repeat for days on end. PMO is voted for Best Tropical Latin Album for this album. I really hope PMO wins this well-deserved accolade, but in my eyes, they have already won in that they have that rare "something" that makes them one of the best bands in the world. I am in awe of their sound, and look forward to seeing where they go in the future. In the meantime, I can't wait to go to the dance clubs wherever they choose to perform-- not to dance, but to lose myself in their music.
