  • Horrible production

The music is great, and the instruments are played virtuosically, but the production on the album is horrible. Really Horrible. I have a great sound system, and this makes it sound like the speakers are going to blow no matter what I do. The only other album I have that does that is Death Magnetic by Metallica, which was their best album since Justice, but the production was horrible on that album too. Seems like the volume was mixed too high and that too much bass was inserted into the final mix. Great music, great band, horrible producer. Buy it though, its worth the money if you can get past the frustration of the production.

I thought I was going to like this, but where in the hell did they find this distortion for the guitars? Should have been clean guitars all the way through. I hope this isn't a preview of their next album......

I've been waiting a long time to hear someone do 3rd movement on guitar one of my favorite classical pieces. Honestly, with the new singer I would rather just hear these guys play instrumental.

Movement 1 should have been all clean guitar, no distortion to jump out and kill the relaxing mood, save that for the epic finish in movement 3. Thats my only problem with it, otherwise it hella awesome!!!

Oh my God, this is freaking amazing, been a fan of The Human Abstract since Nocturne, and this is amazing. Don't take this as THA, but take this as something a metal band released to payi tribute to Beethoven and classical music in general. Yeah blah, blah, blah there are no vocals, but seriously, listen to this and tell me that you can't appreciate this. Amazing job with this guys. This made me go back and listen to all their stuff, and I hope that there is more on the way for THA. Please let there be more.

But I couldn't. Hear me out. As a lover of both metal and classical, when I heard that Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata was being recorded by a metal band, I was excited beyond belief. Then I listened to it. Several times. Moonlight Sonata is a touching piece, it is hauntingly beautiful. It is not an eruption of aggression, nor should it be. When metal takes to haunting, the result is breathtaking (Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark just to name a few). But The Human Abstract sadly fails on this count. Take for example the first movement, when towards the end out of nowhere aggression and fury burn through the entire mood of the piece. From that point forward, this ceases to be Moonlight Sonata and simply becomes another metal song, with interestingly placed drums to say the least. If you want to make metal, make metal. If you want to play classically, play classically. If you want to combine them correctly, then you have to maintain the essence of both; sacrificing either will always result in failure
  • A true example of greatness

This is exactly what metal is all about. People who are true fans of metal know what it's roots ate based in. Classical music. The human abstract is truly one of the greatest metal bands of all time. I hope that the the rumors of their departure from the music scene is merely simply that. Just rumors. They need to keep making awesome music!!!!
