Kudos to Vocal Point for finding that elusive point where a devotional hymn about a holy subject can meet with up-to-date chord voicing and style without sounding either irreverent or hopelessly tacky. These BYU boys believe the following is scripture: "The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing on their heads." If you missed the gist of how Vocal Point sang this song, there it is. For them, it was a prayer. It is a musical plea for grace, an invocation of the Christmas Spirit, if you will. So glad to hear such devotion in a capella. It's been rare since Glad slowed down the pace of their a capella work. If you enjoyed this you should listen to Glad's "One Quiet Moment" or any of the traditional Christian carols on the Blenders Christmas albums. Great stuff there too. Go, right now, search 'One Quiet Moment' and listen to the preview. You'll probably pop for the 99 cents right now and you'll be glad you did. While you're at it, listen to the preview tracks for the Blenders' versions of: Angels We Have Heard On High, Do You Hear What I Hear, The First Noel, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, O Come All Ye Faithful, One Small Child/We Three Kings, and The Christmas Song for good measure. I'm sure you'll find some keepers there as well. Of course, big fans of The Sing-Off probably have all the Blenders' recordings already. But if you're a Vocal Point fan, you might not have found these guys yet. They deserve some respect here for the contribution they've made to the a capella Christmas genre.

I'm also interested in buying the other songs that were sung on the Christmas episode. Baby it's cold out side, etc... I love this album.

Sometimes a little overproduced, taking liberties with the A Capella genre, but almost always spot on. This compilation really gives each of the groups space to shine with songs that suit their individual styles. Delilah, Pentatonix, Afro Blue, Sonos, YellowJackets, and even Kinfolk 9 and Urban Method had some wonderful interpretations of some classic (and classically overdone) Christmas songs. The only two songs that weren't stand outs to me were Backbeats' "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and the Dartmouth Aires "Up On the Housetop," who merely came across as "adequate," but really didn't shine where even the North Shore's "Winter Wonderland" found voice (granted, carols are probably much more up the alley of a more traditional barbershop-style group).

Coincidently, the three most popular songs are by the groups who I thought should have been in the top 3... interesting to say the least
  • Infant Holy, Infant Lowly- Best Song on the Entire Album

Some of the best performances from the Christmas show included the judges--such as Baby its Cold Outside with Sara Bereilles and Ben Folds. I loved that duet and want to download it.
