The mountain goats are just so amazing. John Darnielle is a songwriting master. His songs are both poetic and catchy. This is one of my favorite albums. The feel to it is just so great. And although it is a different style from some of their other albums like all hail west texas, the new style is amazing. Definitely get this album if you want some truly good music.

It's rare that I find an album in which I like every song. It's even more rare for me to find an album where I LOVE every song. This is one of those albums, every song is a masterpiece in it's own way, and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you Mountain Goats, and I would highly suggest buying this album if you haven't already, it's great.

I don't understand how he keeps doing it!! album after album with simple strums and picks accompanied with lyrics that always sound new, he is just an incredible song writer, incredible!!

However when you look on the bio page here there is a list of contemporaries and followers but neither list mention Andrew Jackson Jihad, whom have a striking similarity to the Goats, both bands are awesome and I suggest you get as many of their albums as possible.
- Darnielle and The Mountain Goats do it...Again.

I absolutely love the Mountain Goats, and own nearly all of their full-length LPs, some EPs, and just about anything of John Darnielle's I can get my hands on including his Extra Lens album Undercard (which is very good as well). Darnielle is a wonderful literate, narrative storyteller with a nasily refrain that at times aches, and at others rages, and at others consules, is joyful, broken, happy, then sad. He's one of the few artist living today worthy of such admiration and respect--he's an artist through and through who makes wonderful, beautifully haunting music. If you've never listened to the Mountain Goats do yourself a favor and give Darnielle and crew a listen, you won't regret it. Then try his earlier albums, feel free to mix and match as Darnielle has done a little bit of everything in his long, outstanding career. One constant is fully-developed characters with real emotions, and motivations. Seeing the world through Darnielle's music can be haunting, aching, beautiful, and uplifting sometimes all at once. I know I'm totally on his jock, but he deserves to have us all up on his jock.
- Beautiful Album

This is a solid album, great from start to finish!
This is also the first album that has struck a chord deep inside me. Something about "Never Quite Free" hit me in the feelings. Had to find a place to sit down and regain my composure.
Thank you for making such wonderful music!

First MG album I've heard. No lie. I should prolly check their stuff out.
Anyway, great album. I wasn't a huge fan on the first listen, mostly because there were some tracks I just couldn't get into. Now, I appreciate how cohesive this album really is, and can listen to it start to finish any time.
- Thank you

For changing my life, seeing you in concert and taking a pic with you was comparable to the best Christmas ever
- Compared to previous albums...

...this one seemed to lack passion. "Listless" was the first word that came to mind when I considered writing a review. This is not to say that this album is by any means bad. The characterization of "listless" is one limited to a comparison of other albums by this wonderful band. In other words, compare this music to the mountains of garbage being produced and sold by other "artists," and these Mountain Goats remain unquestionably at the top of the heap; far and away superior in that broad sense. I just prefer this band's earlier work, particularly the Sunset Tree.
- Long live the Mountain Goats!!!!

John never ceases to amaze and entrance me. Thank you, John, for existing and making music too beautiful for words.
This might be my second favorite Mountain Goats album, falling just behind The Sunset Tree :D
