  • This is what a "Superband" should be!

There are alot of dissapointing so-called "Superbands" (bands that take the singer from one good band, the guitarist from another, and so-on...) in this case: Singer: Trey Anastasio from Phish, Bassist: The amazing and indisputable Les Claypool, and the drummer from The Police. This is a good combination obviously because this album rules and like alot of the music I listen to, it needs a few listens to sink in...unlike most albums, it is hard to pick out the so-called "best songs" from the album because...well...every song is good in its own unique way...I mean even "Wield the Spade" is awesome...and...well you'll just have to give it a listen...you'll see.

All i can say is i stumbled onto this because of lesclaypool. And wow. Im totaly impressed, Excelent cd. Nice and funky les claypool style, but isnt the total focus of the music like most of his work. Its great.

Oysterhead is the sort of band that eccentric music fans like myself could have only visualized before this magic union of three of modern music's freshest minds: Claypool, Anastasio, and Copeland. The inventive interplay and sheer technicality of "The Grand Pecking Order" are worth the price of admission alone; but this, of course, is hardly the only delight that this album brings. Just as the Allmusic review states, the this trio functions so well because none of them attempt to overpower each other. Instead, they create a cogent, yet diverse sound that is unlike anything else on the market today. A smooth and driving jam rock sound, complete with the sort of experimentation and musical independence that only Les Claypool produce makes this album positively excellent, and highly recommended for anyone, not just fans of these artists previous works.
  • Strange, but good

I had no idea what to expect when I first heard about Oysterhead. Three great musicians, each with their own particular style. Some songs are strange, like "Shadow of a Man", and others are excellent, like "Radon Balloon" and "Oz is Ever Floating" Les Claypool's voice gets really annoying, as he sounds like a cartoon character who's trying to sing but can't. It's still pretty good, though.
