  • This is the best peak RT live album of his career

IF you are a fan of RT's Capital Records years, this album catches him at his sharpest touring for his "Mirror Blue" album. It's a great combination of the acoustic and electric strengths of Thompson at (what I think) was the peak of his technical skills. I was lucky enough to see this tour and I think one of the shows he did in Birmingham,AL at the 5 Points Music Hall is the source of several of the cuts selected for the live album.

My favorite Richard Thompson album, It is a full concert with encores and is recorded and mixed very well so the acoustics are excellent. The band is Richard's classic lineup with Pete Zorn, Dave Mattacks and the superb Danny Thompson on bass. On top of it all is Richard Thompson at the peak of his career giving an performance of many of his greatest songs that is near perfection. Oh yes, the in-between song patter is a great example of Richard's keen sense of humor and chemistry with the audience. I couldn't have asked for a better addition to iTunes. If you could only have one Richard Thompson album showing all his songwriting, singing and guitar playing talents from acoustic ballads to insane rockers this is it. Epic guitar moment is The Way That it Shows.
