This is Julian's masterpiece in every way. The music is deep and reaches the soul, while the lyrics make the listener truly think. Highly recomended.

This album is better than his debut. If you really listen to the album who can see how it is constructed in the old beatle style. From Saltwater to Imaginary Lines. It is just an awesome album.

A very deep and beautiful album. He opened himself up and put his personal life out before us. You feel closure, forgiveness and joy with this album. This is his masterpiece paving the way for a healthier man with a better understanding for life and " knowing thyself".

All of the songs are amazing but Help Yourself has stayed with me since 1991 and still hits the spot in 2011

It really is, i didn't love it right off the bat, but I listened to it a few times, and i really did love it. now, on a semi-related note, why does itunes only have 2 of Julian's albums? i mean, Jules has like 3 other ones out, and all they have here is Valotte and Help Yourself? what's up with that?

I disagree with iTunes; there was nothing flawed about "Mr Jordan" - it remains an overlooked '80's classic. "Mr Jordan" was all about women & relationships. Julian even dedicated that album to "the opposite sex for giving me something to write about." "Help Yourself," as a natural progression, sees our hero exploring other avenues. It kicks off with the near-apocalyptic "Rebel King" and dares you to stay with it. No silly love songs here, my friend. John Lennon's eldest son has grown up, married and become a father and a man, make no mistake about it. "Saltwater" shows concern for the environment, while "Imaginary Lines" & "Keep the People Working" have more of a social conscience. The much-needed "Get a Life" proves that Mr Lennon Jr inherited some small modicum of his father's cynical sense of humor, and it is difficult not to get swept away in the melodies and harmonies of "Other Side of Town," especially with a little help from Blue Nile vocalist Paul Buchanan. All in all, this disc is, as much if not more than "Mr Jordan" a complete album that shows Julian's ability to grow and change as an artist. I do not regret buying it - I doubt you will either.
  • Interesting motifs, but overproduced

Here's the thing that bugs me about Julian: he'll produce an album with an amazing track, then the rest of the record sort of rest on the one song's laurels. There are some nice moments in Julian's next helping, however "Saltwater" is the anchor track to a bunch of other mediocre material. The album is over produced, perhaps in trying to riff off of the Beatle sound-- this is not a bad thing! I feel if anyone has a right to play off what the Beatles did, he's a prime candidate. But it goes about the overproduction in a very '80s way. "Saltwater" with its mellotron-sythesis is one heck of a track. How close is the opening riff to "Strawberry Fields Forever?" It's nice to hear again! But in listening to the rest of the material, it falls well short of the promise of "Saltwater." Recommendation? Buy the single.

Julian Lennon -- wow, what to say? This guy is talented, and has crafted some real great songs over the years. Listen to "Listen," for example. Tell me that song is something his old man couldn't have written. It's amazing sometimes.

I always liked Johns voice when he was at his best and Julian is this! This CD musically is very well produced an mixed, and for that reason pleasing to listen to. I found the song I liked best, Maybe I was wrong, to leave me with the feeling of being incomplete. Although many other tracks are quite nice and leave Julian Lennon standing alone as a creative force. My favorites; Help Yourself, Listen and Get a Life. Saltwater strike me odd for some reason, not sure why. A lttle Beatles, a little Bee Gee's a lot Julian, so go ahead and help yourself. Paul Klotz Las Vegas
