David Calvert has been making incredible music for a long time (have you checked out The Resistance?), and I've been waiting for this release with anticipation. Calvert has a gift for music; whether it be in the composition of beautifully unique instrumentals, the intricacies of his guitar work, or his incredible melodies and harmonies, there is rarely a song I don't listen to multiple times. Admittedly, I am a big fan of acoustic music, and David Calvert manages to capture the elements that capture me the most. This CD is a shining example of that. Each song is unique, and each song creates an image through its notes of what the bride and groom are feeling on that day. And I haven't even mentioned the lyrics. Take a moment and listen to them. David Calvert is a serious craftsmen of words. Take "Awake"; there is a wonderful symmetry that takes place between the verses. Beyond that, each verse has deeper meaning; David draws from his relationships with those about whom he sings, working elements of their real relationship into the song. The bride (my bride) in "What we are" is a dancer who's favorite thing is to dance on the beach, and I love watching her. David was able to capture what is going on in my mind in those moments, and how it connects to our relationship as a whole. Lastly, I applaud how David is able to capture God's role in marriage, without making it cheesy or cliche. The lyrics reveal that God is not only the craftsman behind these unions, but he brings a strength, joy, and excitement that will make them last. Honesty, whether you are married or not, this CD is worth taking time to explore. And if you are engaged, then you should go ahead and book this guy.
