Wonderful songs by Kenny Loggins, Cheap Trick, Teena Marie, Berlin, Miami Sound Machine, Loverboy, Larry Greene, Marietta, Harold Faltermeyer, Steve Stevens, Otis Redding, Jerry Lee Lewis, and the Righteous Brothers. I will say that some of the songs are unnecessary such as the remix to “Playing With the Boys” as well as the instrumental track “Memories”. However the oldies by Otis Redding, Jerry Lee Lewis, and The Righteous Brothers are phenomenal and give the soundtrack an old feel. What I wish they would have included instead of “Memories”, that instrumental track I was talking about earlier with Anthony Edwards’ version of “Great Balls Of Fire”. They do oddly have the original version by Jerry Lee Lewis, which is not included in the film. Overall awesome though.

I’m old enough to have seen the original movie when it first came out. The movie was fantastic, exhilarating and easy to watch over and over. This album is great with or without the movie as a backdrop. The eclectic grouping of songs crosses many generations. The lineup for this album, including Cheap Trick, Teena Marie, Berlin, Gloria Estefan, Otis Redding, Kenny Loggins, and the rest - is incomparable to most soundtracks ever collated. Take my Breath Away, Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay, and Great Balls of Fire were all chart toppers in their own time. Kenny Loggins and Harold Faltmeyer bring everything together with their music, both rousing and poignant at the right times throughout the movie. My one issue is that the order of songs on this album doesn’t match the progression of the movie.
