While their previous release has a much more folksy-bluegrass feel, When The River Took Flight showcases Paper Bird's sonorous blossoming both musically and emotionally. There are many nuances to their sound on this album, revealing their maturity and growth as a band. With this release, Paper Bird proves that they are a cohesive whole, a collective of gifted songwriters, composers, and musicians who can seamlessly blend their individual offerings into undeniable joyousness. Standout songs that show their range are Riches to Rags, Band of Angels, Lost Boys, Spit Spot, Anyway But Slow, and the soon to be new official State song, Colorado.

I live in Telluride, CO and saw them live this last week (as a lead-up to Telluride Bluegrass Festival) and they were AMAZING! Really the best stage presence I have every seen. So fun and got the crowd in it and I love how large a group they are. They honestly look like they love being together and the crowd feeds off of that. You know a band has talent when they sound the same live as they do on their CD. If you have a chance to see them, do!

I saw these guys live in Tacoma, WA and also in Olympia, WA. Probably one of the best shows I've been to. Underground or main stage type shows. These guys are now in my top five bands of all time. I can't stop listening to their album and I can't wait to buy their other one. I can't believe no one has signed them yet. If you ever have a chance to see them live-take it! I almost want to road trip down to Colorado to see them again. No joke. I couldn't be more passionate about this band.

I just caught Paper Bird live in concert at the Fillmore in Denver, CO. They played a few numbers off this album and I just -had- to go get the rest! Great talent, and a wonderful show all around =)
