True, Kula Shaker have not re-invented themselves like some other artists, but they have still grown and evolved with each release. The last two albums, Strange Folk and Pilgrims Progress have found them still making tremendously catchy melodies that have a (I hate this word) "retro" sound. The most noticeable differences between these albums and earlier works are a slight softening of the edges and less of the middle-eastern influences that had been so prevalent. I would personally consider both K and PP&A "guitar" albums, where Pilgrim is not. At the end of the day, however, I still enjoy it just as much.
  • Not Special K, but better than Regular K

Ok, so their first album, K, was splendid. It blended Eastern Music with the sprawling BritPop noise of the mid-nineties and did it with passion and panche. It sounded more Eastern even than Cornershop. If you liked that sound, you're find much to appreciate in Pilgrim's Progress. Although they cut back on the world music, the same style of Kula is there. The first and last songs are the treats. Peter Pan RIP rips pretty well, but it's the Pink Floydian guitar coda on "Winter's Call" that will stun you. Check This One out if you already like Kula Shaker, start with the bookend tracks if you're just curious
