As good as any album I've heard this year

As with 2009's Asteroid Galaxy Tour album "Fruit", I had already bought most of the songs on this album on EPs before the full album was released. "Push" and "Something to Prove" were on an eponymous 2009 EP, and all four songs from 2009's "Movers Shakers Makers" EP are on the album ("A-Side", "Swing", "Tension in the Seconds", and "Movers, Shakers, Makers"). Taken as a whole album, a little bit of sameness creeps in by the end, but The Redwood Plan's sound is so good that the album is as good as any other I've heard so far this year. The Redwood Plan play hard-edged alternative music with a combination of propulsive energy and melodicism that was a lot more common in the '80s than it is today. It's great to hear a band that rocks out but still writes SONGS, with melodies that stick in your head. "Push", "Swing", and "Something to Prove" were all among my favorite songs of last year. Of the four new songs, "For What It's Worth" has made the best first impression.
