Insects vs Robots take it to a whole new level with double drums, insanely complex riffs and arrangements, psychedelic trip outs around every corner, funky rhythms, and 15 minute progressive orchestrations, Definitely a band that is reinventing rock. This album is recorded by their drummer Tony Peluso, Artwork is by The other drummer Micah Nelson. Music writen and performed by Maggie Lally, Milo Gonzalez, Tony Peluso, Jeff Smith, J.M Nelson, and Nakita Soroken They emerged from Venice Beach about year ago with a spontaneous onslaught of shows in Los Angeles, and other parts of California blowing minds everywhere. I went to see Insects vs Robots at the Viper room in November. Before they played they were hanging out outside the club sitting around a stone wall with about 20 other people. Most of them seemed like travelers, circus freaks, or artists of some kind. Or maybe they were all just insane. They seemed to switch between intellectual conversation and nonsense dialogue mixed with abstract noises and gestures. Their guitar player, Milo, was playing the guitar the entire time only taking a short break to stand on his hands and touch his feet to his head, causing a chain reaction of handstands and circus antics among the group. IVR(as some call them) were mind blowing, each of the members delivered jaw dropping and enthralling performance. There 45 minute set consisted of 3 songs, each about 15 minutes long. They guided me on a winding sonic journey through many tastes and interpretations of music. At any given point in the set i thought they had hints of The Mars Volta, James Brown, Black Sabbath, Bach, and King Crimson, Radio Head, Ravi Shankar, and African tribal drumming... I was impressed by their ability to fluently move through any genre of music creating a genre less performance. The songs from that performance I saw are featured here in Insects vs Robots Debut album. BRAVO GUYS. -Ted
