  • My Dad and Flags of our Fathers

Flags of our Fathers is about my Dad. He is a Vietnam Vet, Retired Air Force, and recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He lives in a small town in Montana, Every year we have a parade in July and he, just like the song, is the first to stand when the Color Guard comes into sight. So much so, as little kid I was a little embarrassed when he would be the only one standing at attention and saluting. Hellen Darling moved to our town and became good friends of our family and a few years and parades later, Flags of our Fathers was born. When I graduated and joined the Army, I gained a whole new respect for the man who everyone else was looking at when no one else even realized that the Colors were coming down the road yet. When I learned that Hellen was letting a former Army Ranger record the song, I was again honored and touched that this song about my Dad and his actions, was again going to again touch people in this way. I know that there are countless Vets in this wonderful Country that this song could apply to, but this one is about mine. I thought that fans of Keni and this song might like to know the story behind the Old man on the side of the street. Unfortunately he is now unable to make the trip from the house to Main Street for the parade each year and I believe his time is short for this world, but I hope to one day be that old man, teaching the young kids what those flags of our fathers truly stand for.

I too, saw Keni on Louis CK. Also, I am not a fan of country but I like these songs, Circle on the Cross and another Mexico Song. To me he sounds a lot like Jimmy Buffett. Keni's compositions tell a story that either touches your heart or amuses you. I am glad he got a break on Louis CK. Good for him and good for us,

I hate country music, seriously hate it but this touched my heart, I have friends and family in the military and was blown away by Keni's lyrics, I am a metal head and I can appreciate this, so in my opinion it doesn't matter what your musical preferences are you will enjoy this!!!

I saw Keni Thomas perform some songs live on an episode of Louis C.K.'s show "Louie" and I immediately downloaded his CD
