This is one of my favorite albums of all time. It reminds me a lot of a local band that is about 2 hours from me called the Stillwater Prophets. Look them up!

I think i was about two years old when my dad got this album. He played it in the car all the time. Now that i am older i really like to listen to the album still. He's a real good guitarist and song writer and all. But every time i hear it, it gives me this weird feeling. I can't really explain though. It just makes me happy. I guess i've been listening to this album all my life.

Saw Rev HH in Kansas City in the early 90s. I was in a local bar waiting to see a local punk band and these weird red-necks were opening. No one had ever heard of them -- from East Dallas Texas -- but within 10 minutes all the people standing around being "too cool" were instantly converted and the place FREAKED OUT. Everyone went crazy. Within less than a year The Rev was famous. This is the best of their work and captures the energy of their live shows. They have energy and skill and know how to win over the most cynical of crowds. They earned their fame.

Oh man, these guys are great!! I've seen them several times...awesome shows. They signed my kids flyer at Hootenanny when he was 7 years old...yeah, my kid was into them back then. He's a teenager now and still digs them. The flyer is framed and still hangs on his wall. These guys are so cool and are excellent down to earth musicians!! Check out all of their CD's, everyone is great. Good hard driving music.

I discovered the Reverend Horton Heat in 1994. I bought this album as a joke because of the "Elmer Gantry" used car salesman on the front. Thinking it was a goofy novelty album, I was surprised, blown away, hooked. The Reverend opened up a whole new thing. So far as I know, nobody was even using the word psychobilly until he came along. Jim Heath is an American treasure. HOW can you compare The Rev with anyone? He is an original. There are a few artists that come along in a lifetime...Jimi...Buddy...Waylon...Johnny...Chet...Brian Setzer...the Rev is a living legend. Buy this album. Then buy all of his albums. Long live The Reverend Horton Heat!!!

Why didnt I find them sooner? Damn! Oh well, I found them now and I just want to say that I am not a huge Rockabilly fan although these guys are insane; good guitar licks, fun lyrics and my understanding is one of the best live shows ever (we will see on Friday). I found them because they are coming with the Supersuckers or maybe the Supersuckers are coming with them, any way, I read a little bit and tried to get an understanding of what people thought their best album was. Very difficult to do as it seems everyone of there albums is in rated in the highest regards. So not knowing where to start I started as early as I could possibly find, here, with "Smoke 'Em If You Got' Em". All in all a great album, I have listened to it five or six times and I just received it yesterday. A couple of my favorites are Bad Reputation, Put It To Me Straight, and Eat Steak. I dont know what the other albulms have to offer yet, but if its anything like this one, I am in for a SWEET ride! As a side note, I have never used iTunes, however, I was given a gift card and so I purchased this album. Although the album was a reasonable price, I would prefer a higher bitrate (128 just doesent cut it). I will most likely be buying this album on CD just so I can have a the quality.

In 1991 I bought everything I could find on the Sub Pop label, I had a voracious appetite for anything new. I found a copy of "Smoke 'Em" on cassette and it made quite an impression on my 16 year old eardrums. I really like "The Full-Custom Sound..." but this is my favorite "Rev" recording. Truly original, even by psychobilly standards, and a whole lot of fun. Yep, they are amazing live too! I recommend starting with this record, you won't be sorry. One warning, if you are a jaded rockabilly hipster, you may not enjoy the "Rev's" laid back, tongue in cheek rock and roll sounds. Too bad, this is rock and roll, not a four year doctorate program in zoology! If you are a genuine maniac, get a pack of your favorite smokes and a six-pack of Pabst, grab your best girl, take the chopped Mercury cruiser out for a spin and play this record at full volume. Need more insane rock and roll, search for some Flat Duo Jets, New Bomb Turks, Didjits and Supersuckers as well.

Believe it or not The Rev. did exist prior to the GH2 hype. His shimmering debut is the greatest example of his musical prowess. Buy it, hear it, live it.

This is in my opinion one of the best albums out there. All the songs are great and funny. Love East Steak and of course Psychobilly freakout.
