  • Not for old fans but new ones

Lot of people complaining that many tracks are already available on other albums. Well D'OH!!! Message to people who may be so geriatric they forget their medication: if you dont have any albums by Neil Young then Archives is THE perfect compilation especially for iTunes. This album is not being marketed to old fans but new ones. And as for NY being greedy by releasing Archives...that is the most ridiculous, patently absurd claim on this page. Archives is well worth the money if you love Neil Young. Archives includes tracks that havent been released and just because some old geezers on this page claim to have heard them before doesnt mean they have
  • Sounds WAY better.

I already owned most of the recordings here on CD. They always sounded weak and thin to me though. The new box set is GREAT because it is remastered to sound fuller, clearer and more like the original masters. If you are listening to this collection as mp3's on ipod ear-phones, you won't notice much difference. But if you download this in the best quality possible (or go buy the CD's) and put it on a nice sound system it's AMAZING! It's well worth the money for the better sounding recordings IMOP.
  • What a Joke......

I love Neil Young and have 35 of his albums including live material but not including CSNY and BS. I agree with the other posts, 22 years for this? Anybody who is a die hard Neil fan like myself already has all this material and wants rare and unreleased gems. Anyone who is just starting out will be turned off by all this and won't spend $80 when they can get it from friends. Let's try this again Neil and do it right next time! Love you tons but this is a joke!

Neil's Archive vol 1 is great. I cant understand why people would not like this volume. Even if there's a few discs that are repeats, it is still well worth it. i understand that it is a lot of money but if your a real neil fan you should get this piece of art in this wonderful box that took a long time to put together. I know everybody has an opinion and thats ok but give the man a little credit. not everybody can do what he does.just give him a chance
  • WAKE UP NEIL and release Time Fades Away!!!

I would have bought this recycled mess if it had "Time Fades Away" the album that Neil refuses to release on CD. The music on that album speaks volumes, and now if you don't own a turntable (which I fortunately do) you cannot hear this classic album! Greed man, GREED!
  • Too many retreads

This set is an expensive disappointment. Blu-Ray buyers might have put out $249 for a lot of retreads. It is almost, not quite, as bad as the remastered umpteen times Stones catalog that has a truckload of "unreleased" material that doesn't make it to any of the re-issues. You should be able to buy these discs a la carte.

$1.29 a song. I am sure that Neil and all of the other folks involved with this release are well off $$$$$$ wise. I am just a simple man with a simple bank account who would have loved to buy this release but the slight slap in the face of an extra 30 cents (yes I know only 30 cents each but...) turns me off. I gave it three stars cause I love the man and his music but I will just have to hold off on this set until I can't take it anymore...well maybe a song or two or three or...

We've heard about this collection forever and it's great to finally hear it. The early demos with just Neil and an acoustic guitar are incredible. There's 125 tracks with demos, early recordings, live performances, etc. However, two of these disks were already released. I'm not thrilled at having to buy "duplicates" to get the rest of the archives. But, I guess that's the price I pay for grabbing the two individual disks as soon as they became available. And, I'm certainly glad to have the others...
  • Please split this collection into separate cd's !!!

It's not bad, but if you are a true Neil Young Fan, you already have most of this stuff. Most of these tracks are just remastered versions of tracks that have already been released. The Springfield demos are nice, but most people have heard them on the bootlegs. I was hoping there would be more unreleased tracks and rehearsals. It's nice but 79 bucks is pretty steep, especially, since I've already bought Massey Hall and the Fillmore East cd's. They should split them into separate discs, so fans don't have to buy duplicates. C'mon Neil ! Stop bleeding your fans!!! Show'em some respect!!! Without your loyal fans, you wouldn't be driving that LincVolt!!!

Having been a Neil Young fan since his Buffalo Springfield days, I must say I was extremely dissappointed after waiting for years for the first volume of his archives to FINALLY come out. First of all, what took so long? 22 of the songs included in this archive have been recently released in the past couple of years as Live at the Fillmore and Live at Massey Hall. Although there are a few gems here that we haven't been able to get, most of this volume is essentially stuff that Neil has put out already. In my opinion the first 9 songs should have been left buried. I think what most of us were wanting to see here was maybe a few more Buffalo Springfield, Harvest, Stray Gators, and CSN &Y out takes. Time Fades Away, probably Neil's best Live performance and some of the other songs from that tour would have added to this first volume immensely. Hopefully, they'll be on the next volume. Just a little disappointed here, Neil, and $1.29 a song, Come On!
