I have been trying to only give out 5 star ratings to truly superb albums that are deserving. This album is one of them. Every song bleeds well into one another however all the songs stand alone and are all different in tone and structure. Found these guys a few weeks back trying to find similar bands to the no defunct Oceansize.

That's my review. Do I need to say more? Solid record from top to bottom, and it just keeps getting better every time I listen to it.

I had never heard of The Life and Times, but had discovered them from Itunes "listeners also bought..." from National Skyline's Bliss & Death album. So I checked out the samples on here and decided to give it a whirl.. I must say that I'm really not impressed. I know many who are reading this are loyal fans, and I'm sorry to crash in.. but there's just so many bands that sound like this one. Of course they're creative and good, but so are about a thousand other bands with the same style. It seems they used their synth as simply filler which just makes the songs louder but doesnt contribute much to the overall song. I do give credit they have some good songs on here, but overall I wasn't mind blown by this album.. just another talented band that doesn't stick out to me. Like I said, they're talented, but so are a thousand others that sound just like these guys do.

This sonic gem belongs in the best of the decade. This is no exaggeration. Every note is masterful, every lyric is pointed and necessary. If Shiner's "The Egg" is Allen Epley's perfection (and I believe it is), then this album proves that a focused individual can continually produce brilliance without being tiresome or boring. Buy this album.
  • Buy it! Love it! Then go see them LIVE!

As others have mentioned - it's a shame that this body of work will likely never rise to the level of general awareness that is it's due. Buy this, put on some good headphones or just crank the stereo and get lost in the tracks. Do it again - then do it again! Now go see TLAT live and I promise they'll take it up another notch.

As I write this review, The Black Eyed Peas have two songs on the top of the iTunes charts. The Life and Times is a band for people who find the fact I just mentioned utterly perplexing. You must be able to appreciate utter submersion in thickly-layered, soaring harmonic guitars, enveloping your entire body as you sink deep into a state of awe at their ability to concoct such a fulfilling sound. Epley's lyrics are only for those who care that their listening experiences are meaningful and intellectually engaging. I should mention that The Politics of Driving is pure perfection. This is easily one of the best musical works that exists, and is sure to be appreciated by all those who are truly engaged both bodily and intellectually by music. Let the Booty-Shakers have their fun on some other distant part of the planet.

... and worth every second of the wait. Driving rockers and spacey ballads. Juicy drum and bass production (refer to the title track), these will be the summer jams pushed out through my car windows. Holy crap. This is a truly great record.
