Look for the amazing version of Scarlet Begonias / Fire on the Mountain a few minutes after Saint of Circumstance, disc # 2. Not on the set list .... But it's there.

Brent and Jerry are tearing it up this entire show which seems to have a contagious effect on the band this night! Bobby really gives it his all to keep up and does a splendid job all the while Phil,Bill and Mickey crank out steady yet dynamic rhythms. There is a deep musical conversation taking place between Jerry and Brent here, absolutely sublime and fantastic. very educational for the keyboardist/pianist in training to listen to this to pick up some tips. easy to understand for a musician why the early 80's and Brent Mydland is truly a highlight of the dead's touring career in the later years!

I hadn't listen to this show in a couple years and was superprized at how good it is. The band is ablaze and preforms the songs well. The band just is not as good as they were in the 70s. Even in a jam band vocals matter and their voices are starting to go even here. They play good here, but not great. The hidden Scarlet>Fire is excellent, but is from the 70s (no wonder!) If you want a pick from the 80s this is the one to get. Give me Keith and Donna with the rest of the band being amazing rather then Brent. Again he is very gifted. I have heard enough shows where Donna is an asset to the band not to like her. Also it is hard to hear Bobby's guitar through most of this.
  • Nassau from 1980 better, but...

The show starts off pretty slow, but they start to pick it up at Let It Grow and then rip off one of my all time favorite Deals - Just smoking - And then the rest of the show is fantastic - The Saint of Circumstance title is a little misleading as following the Lost Sailor > Saint of Circumstance the go into a pretty awesome Scarlet Begonias > Fire on The Mountain that is somehow not listed on the set list. While I think that the Nassau from 5/15/80 is a better example of the period and the venue, this is no slouch of a show...
