Saw The Afghan Whigs on the last show of the Black Love tour at the 9:30 Club in D.C. Front row. Very powerful songs... when Greg Dulli kicked the band into "Bulletproof" at the beginning of the first encore I thought the place was going to explode. They ended the night, like the album, with Faded and it was pretty epic. This is very dark music but has stood the test of time as the masterpiece that it was intended to be. Listen in the dark...
  • Another batch of great songs.

While I am enjoying listening to Black Love, it cannot match the visceral blow to the solar plexus the "Gentleman" delivers.

A fantastic follow up to one of the most important records of the last 25 years Gentleman. Has its own legs, an almost wiser approach from the whigs. just buy this, Gentleman, and 1965

Like some of the other reviewers on here, I got into the Afghan Whigs late. This was the second album of theirs that I listened to. It got repeated plays on my stereo. I found it hypnotic, dark, intense. It seems as though Dulli begins in the dark and moves toward the light. That's a tough journey for those of us who make it, but it's very rewarding. Just like Black Love.

Such a beautiful symphony, preceding 1965, bringing you down then back up again (Faded). This band is unbelievable, you should check out # 1, then click on # 11 to feel the passion in this album.

Underrated band, Greg Dulli's voice isn't even that great but it all works
  • I listened to this album way too late...

My friend who is a bit older than I am turned me on to The Afghan Whigs by means of Gentlemen. I listened... I appreciated... then a few weeks later I got stuck in an airport that had wifi. I went to my music board of choice and found a thread that argued, "which is better, 'Gentlemen or Black Love'". I had nothing but time so I downloaded "Black Love" and soon figured that it not only blew "Gentlemen" away... but me as well. From "Crime Scene Part One" the album is gripping... literally gripping... and then once you think you've heard the best that The Afghan Whigs have to offer, "Faded" comes along. I started to question my own thoughts on the question of "What is the greatest song ever written?" And like a fickle lover I found ways to discredit the song... but surely and at a moderate pace it presented its credentials over an over to where... I still might deny it... but I would tell anybody that "Faded" might be the best song ever written. The rest can be left up to you... but I will be concealed behind the blue clouds...

Finally, The Afghan Whigs full masterpiece Black Love is fully available on I-Tunes. It was previously only available as a partial album that didn't offer Faded, the song that closes this record. If you love rock music that didn't have to use Pro- Tools or any sort of computer garbage to build it, you will love listening to this. I recommend Faded highly.
