  • Moving lyrics and stirring music

Great album - highly recommended for the bluegrass musician, anyone who enjoys celtic style music, or those who appreciate nineteenth century history - which let's face it - hasn't been accurately taught for decades. Moving lyrics and stirring music bring the story to life of the Southern people (of all races and ages) who lived, fought to protect their homes and died at the hands of tyrants during this terrible period of American history.

Many of the songs praise an American version of the landed aristocracy of England that held millions of people in slavery and considered them as a capital investment as a freedom loving group being oppressed by the federal government. This totally ignores the reality and demeans the sacrifices of Irish American troops in federal service who died to end slavery in the United States.

Some of the best southern songs out there.

I'm a big fan of the Wolfe Tones, and I'm a bit of a civil war nut. When I saw iTunes had this, I was pretty excited. However, a lot of the songs on here you can find on David Kincaid's The Irish American's Song, and they're much better on that, in my opinion. Derek Warfiedl fell way short of expectations, and frankly he should go back to singing with the rest of the Wolfe Tones.
