Amazingly, this movie is not dated. The music is wonderful and still holds up. Only issue I have with movie version is Michele Lee singing "I Believe In You" before Bob Morse. In the original Broadway production Loesser intended it to show Finch's narcissistic streak. He sings it about himself, looking into a mirror. Movie version had Rosemary singing it to him first. Somewhat takes away from intended effect when he does it later. But this does not take away from how absolutely charming the show is. An absolute Broadway masterpiece.

Don't get me wrong... How To Succeed is one of my FAVORITE musicals. I even own this movie. But if you're looking for the best soundtrack for this musical, this isn't it. If you can find the original cast recording with songs such as "Happy to Keep His Dinner Warm", "Cinderella, Darling", and "Love from a Heart of Gold", it's a much better recording. But I do love How to Succeed...

This original recording has all the slap/dash/zing reminiscent of gin and vermouth. I have loved the music from HTSINWRT for decades, and defy you to find a collection of snappier songs than this one. If you love Broadway musicals, and the kind that are as fresh today as they were then, try out How To Succeed. A classic.
