- Three Stars

First off, I don't like the title track being split into eight songs, if you can't handle a 42 minute epic, you can't handle their usual 10 minute epic. But that is not why I gave this only three stars. The title track is epic. It's fantastic. As for the first disc, eh, describe epic
- Pretty good

Honestly, this could've been my favorite DT album if the whole album was like disc one (tracks 1-5). Disc two is good, but nothing special in my opinion. The first five songs are amazing. Some of DT's best songs.
- MASTERPIECE!!!!

In my opinion, Dream Theater is so great, except for the vocals. :(
Maybe I'm simply too biased but whatever

This is another great Dream Theater album! The Glass Prison is so heavy, and the rest of the album is good to. The main reason I bought this is I wanted to put together the Twelve-step Suite. If you don't know what that is you take these songs from the albums Six Degres of Inner Turbulence, Train of Thought, Octavarium, Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds & Silver Linings. And take the songs 1.) The Glass Prison 2.) This Dying Soul 3.) The Root of All Evil 4.) Repentance 5.) The Shattered Fortress and make a playlist in this order and listen to it. A true masterpeice. :)

This album is famous for its 42-minute long rock epic, but the other songs are just as amazing.
The Glass Prison- An extremely heavy, fast, and aggressive song, even by DT standards. The intro will melt your face.
Blind Faith- A softer song, but it's still well-written and has a nice solo. Not my favorite.
Misunderstood- Starts slowly, then some powerful drumming smacks you in the face about halfway through. But that's the only real thrill of this song.
The Great Debate- A rather bizarre song, but still very good. LaBrie's violent, off-beat singing works well with the very progressive instrumentals of this song, resulting in a Tool-like vibe.
Disappear- A very emotional song with depressing lyrics, obviously about someone dying. Other than keyboards, there is little music.
And now, for the main event!!
Overture- An orchestra-like piece, it captures the many styles used throughout the song.
About to Crash- A good, solid song with classic DT sound to it.
War Inside My Head- A short, simple section. A little too simple, perhaps. And LaBrie trying to sound like James Hetfield is emotionally scarring. (I'm sorry, there's no other way to put it.)
The Test That Stumped Them All-
A very heavy and chaotic song. Similar to the first part of The Glass Prison.
Goodnight Kiss- Very sad and quiet for the first half or so, then builds into a killer guitar solo, which leads perfectly into the next part.
Solitary Shell- An amazing acoustic song with inspiring lyrics. The only problem is the solo and ending, which kind of kills the relaxed feel of this part.
About to Crash (Reprise)- A shorter, faster, and more upbeat retelling of the original version. One of my favorite parts.
Losing Time- A relatively slow and uninspired part. Possibly the weakest link in the song.
Grand Finale- Wraps up the song in a manner similar to Octavarium. Ends on an (overly) dramatic note.
- Just depressing

Musically and sonically superb but 13 songs about mental illnesses? Is that really all DT can come up with when the time comes to add lyrics to the music? After listening to more than three songs, I feel ready to check into a mental institution myself.
