I was floored by how FUN this album is!!! I will definitely be buying more Marc Gunn. I can't help laughing out loud walking down the street listening, it helps motivate me (miracle...)and is helping my posture...I can't help but stand tall while I have this playing! Love it!

I am buying all of his itunes music to support him. His podcasts are great, and he does it because he loves it and that shows. He seems to be a genuinely good soul who loves cats! But best of all, his music is like none you will find anywhere else. It is light and humurous, and just plain fun! Especially after a few pints, eh? Great work Marc!

Wonderful traditional songs sungs with an Irish brogue in Marc's rich voice! This album is like bringing one of Marc's shows from faire into your own home. I really enjoy how well the songs sound with his signature instrument and, as always, the way he brings just the right amount of comedy to his music. My absolute favorite part of the album is one of the most beautiful a cappela versions of "All For Me Grog" I've ever heard. This is a perfect album for listening to with friends when the faire day or season is over and you want to re-live those special moments!
  • Irish classics and Pirate songs!

This album is right up my alley. I've been listening to this in the car non-stop! The melodies are simple and clean, and it's fun to sing along with. If your a Celtic or renaissance music fan, this is the album for you. It's also a great gateway drug to get your friends interested in this type of music. (TIMMY!)
  • Another great album from Marc Gunn

I enjoyed this album. The songs are well done and the accents add authenticity. If you like Marc Gunn's music, or just folk music in general, you'll love this. "The Holy Ground" is a very pretty song and my favourite on this album. "Irish Rover" is a great sing-a-long song and "The Mermaid Song" lyrics are so catchy I can't get them out of my head.
  • Fantastic renditions of classic tunes.

Marc Gunn has hit another homerun with this collection of classic Celtic themed sea songs. Every song is great by itself and is certainly worth the price of purchase but i recommend the whole album as Marc has a particular talent for creating an excellent collection of songs. In fact I wopuld say that the song choice improves the overall listening expeirence immensely. If you own some of the Borgdingnagian Bards albums or some of Marc's other solo stuff I definetely recommend adding this one to your collection. Even if you've never bough another of Marc's albums but you like Irish music and have heard other some of these songs, buy this album. In fact I own other versions of nearly every one of these songs but Marc brings his own humorous, light-hearted style to the songs that make his versions my favorites by far.

This is such a great album. I listened to it several times already and felt like I brought the whole of an Irish pub home with me. My favorite on this CD has to be "The Irish Rover" it is fantastic!! I found myself singing along to each song. Marc brings his own magic and charm to each song and it makes it quite fun. He is such a talent. I recommend this CD (as well as others from Marc) because they are charming and simply makes you feel great! I let some of my friends listen to this CD (who have never heard this genre before) and they loved it.

Going for Brogue: Irish Pub Songs and Sea Shanties with an Accent, is a good compilation of songs. It has a few songs such as Old Fenian Gun and Whiskey, Johnny! that you don’t hear often, and that makes them stand out in this collection. Marc’s in fine form with his “brogue” making this a unique sounding album. This is a good album for a mix of pub songs and sea shanties.
  • I wanted to write a better review here, but I'm too honest...

While the songs themselves are great, listening to this album as a whole gave me an overwhelming sense of "De Jevu" -- sure enough, a little digging turned up all of these songs on two other releases from Marc: "Irish Stout, a collection of pub songs" and "Captain Black Jack Murphy / Pogue Mahone means kiss my arse" [with the possible exception of the Mermaid song -- this one is nearly a minute longer than on the other album, so it must be a newer recording] I give 5 stars for the songs themselves (especially the sea shanties from the CBJ album as they feature marc in "multi-track recording mode"), but have to take away 2 for rehashing old content -- sorry, buddy...

These are great songs. Perfect music to have a bottle of Guinness with. I especially liked "Mingulay Boat Song," "Isn't It Grand, Boys," and "The Night The Paddy Murphy Died," some of my favourites but which don't often appear on albums. All in all, a great collection of tunes. Highly recommended!
