The album is more of a movie score with some vocals from Scarlett. Her voice is not that strong and gets lost in the music a lot.

She has a beatifull singing voice.
Needs the right music.
Maybe older sytle music something like Maryln Monroe would want to sing.
The Peter Yorn album shows her tonal quality better.

I think this record is like any by big names of the musical industry like Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, etc. The bad thing is that it bears the name of an actress, not an established singer, and so people are not going to listen but rather to judge after listening just once. They have their maul at hand when listening.
I know by experience that you never fully realize the merits of music by the first time you listen. To the people that blame it I'll say: give it a second and third try, you will be amazed of what you will discover.
I didn't like it at first, now I do... That have happened to me before. ( I am from Puerto Rico, please excuse my english. )

A lot of people are ripping on "Her voice is terrible! Just because she can act doesn't mean she can sing!" etc. Her voice really isn't bad. It's actually quite pretty, a bit haunting. It's the crowded music that turns me away from most of the tracks, the LACK of Scar Jo's voice. Personally, I hope she puts out another album in the same genre, but maybe pick a better producer.

I love Tom Waits. And SJ is a incredibly likeable actress. I got excited when I saw it so I listened. She tries hard, but there's no soul in this.

I think it was ahead of it's time. It was released right when electro pop was becoming popular. No one wanted to hear anything else. Now there's Lorde and Lana Del Rey and, okay, Scarlett is not on their level, but I still think the album would have been far better received had it been released in 2014 instead of when it was. She has a very soft and simple voice. She doesn't try to emulate a powerful voice. She stays in her comfort range and makes the songs her own.
