I had this album once on cassette, but now I have it on compact disc. Great way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ at home with this album. It sounds radiant in digital stereo, but if you have this album on vinyl or tape, enjoy it either way, but to listen this album in digital, you're getting true concert hall reproduction without distortion, provided that the treble is turned all the way up and the bass at mid position on your stereo amp.

This was the only Christmas album we had when I was growing up and I always loved it. To me it is the standard by which all other Christmas music is compared. Hadn’t heard it in around 40 years until finding it on iTunes. So glad to have ‘rediscovered’ this timeless classic.

The previous reviewers speak with the eloquence to which I can only aspire.

Like one of the other reviewers wrote, my father played this every year around Christmas. It was a staple in our family. Even as a child I recognized how incredible these arrangements are. It will always be the embodiment of the holiday to me. O Come O Come Emanuel and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen have always been my favorites. Those horse hooves! I love that I have it digitally now, but I must admit that I am nostalgic for the pops and scratches from the vinyl album we always played.

Ever since I was a child, I have always remembered listening to this album throughout the Christmas season, year after year. It is definitely one of my holiday favorites and always puts me in the Christmas spirit. It simply isn't the holidays without this album-- the music is absolutely beautiful and will forever be on my holiday playlist. Highly recommended.

My father recorded this on reel to reel tape and later bought the reel to reel produced copy of this masterpiece recorded in 1962. This is the music of Christmas, the music of the message, and now I have it on compact disc and on the ipad. Nothing is better than this compilation from the year of my birth.

Unequalled. Beautiful, powerful, talent with inspiration from above. 5 stars does not describe. Turn it up and marvel.

One of the all time great Christmas albums. I have had it on the original LP, on tape and on CD. But, for goodness sake, get the title right. It has always been, "The Glorious Sound of Christmas," not "The Joy of Christmas." Read the artwork!!!

There were just a few Christmas music staples in our home, and this was my dad's absolute favorite! When I was married and moved away, he taped it (remember cassette tapes?) so that I would be able to listen to it at Christmastime. Several of Dad's other favorites are no longer available, but are still on cassettes, waiting for me to digitally record them. This is one of them - but I am thrilled to be able to buy the digital files instead! Dad's favorite was "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" but mine is "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen." Buy this and enjoy! It will bring the Christmas spirit into your home!
