Magnaaflux's newest record "Half A Mil Is The New Five Grand" was penned by Seattle music veterans who've been at it since long before the city's music scene was described using the "G-word". Although this record was produced by the legendary Jack Endino, this isn't a throwback/tribute to the daze of yore illustrated by blurry Charles Peterson photos. Endino and Magnaaflux have realized the band's sound in an exciting, diverse collection of songs. This album not only distinguishes Magnaaflux from plaid-inspired rock of nearly twenty years ago, but promises to expand what people imagine when they think of "a band from Seattle". This album is a singular expression of emotion belted out in big riffs, fuzzy melodies, and driving rhythms uniquely defined with dashes of blues and hip hop. Oh yes, they don't cross the three minute mark on any song. It's a playful song-cycle, lyrically and musically, but cuts straight to the point and feeds the desire for pure adrenaline and excitement for 20 tracks. Throw "Half A Mil..." on as the soundtrack to your next party or streetrace - People will thank you for it.
