  • Well, it’s better than “Ceremony”

Seriously, there’s a decent EP buried in “Born Into This”. Unfortunately, a lot of these tracks are filler in the vein of latter-day Cult records. “Tiger In the Sun” is a catchy, soaring throwback to the “Manor Sessions” & “Sonic Temple” era Cult sound; actually it sounds as much like Coloursound. “Dirty Little Rock Star” is a catchy, fun throwaway. “Holy Mountain” is an atrocious, unlistenable power ballad. The rest of the tracks are relatively undistinguished and they grow tiresome if consumed at once. For best effect, edit your playlist to suit your taste.

For me, it takes a few times of listening to an album to get the full effect. After giving Born into This a good listening to about 10 times, I can say this is excellent work by The Cult, once again. The other Cult albums that are solid through and through are the absolute classic that everyone should own, Love, plus Electric, and Sonic Temple. Some of the best rock out there, people.

I've been recently turned on to the Cult, and they are a sadly underappreciated rock band. I bought this CD (minus the demo tracks and the regular version of "Savages") when it first came out on iTunes and i have had it in my car ever since (i took it out once to get variety, but now it's back in... i couldnt get enough!). The sound of Born Into This is different from anything The Cult's done so far, kinda like Sonic Temple, but with a more updated sound. The band sounds phenomenal-- Ian Astbury's vocals are incredible, as always, Billy Duffy's guitar is rocking all over the place with great tone and distortion, and the rhythm section (made up of veteran heavy metal drummer John Tempesta and an incredible bassist, Chris Wyse) are tight and segue in great with the singer and guitarist. Every track on here is great, at least as far as good old fashioned hard rock with some alternative influences thrown in to the mix goes. Great for driving and just plain rocking out. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

I have been listening to the cult since Dreamtime was realeased in the early 80's, and I have been loyal through all of their releases, but this album ROCKS! It is their BEST since Sonic Temple... As a long time fan, I am so excited that the CULT is back!!!

On first listen, I was on the fence. It was good but not stand out. 2nd and 3rd listen...it was clear. This is like The Cult 2.0. A new, more complex Cult sound with lots of old school signature Cult mixed in. Nice to see them evolve into something fresh and new but still have that K*** A** nastalgic Cult sound. Long live The Cult!

Wow... talk about a disappointment. If I didn't love my Cult collection so much, I might have set it on fire after hearing this. I'm amused at the reviewers who refer to the classic Cult sound of Electric-Sonic Temple. For the older fans, that was the beginning of the end. (I do enjoy Electric and Ceremony, but Sonic Temple is a waste of time - reminds me of this one). For those of you looking for real classic stuff, track down the first recordings: Southern Death Cult and Death Cult (both on Beggars Banquet - probably not on ITunes). Or the original 12-cd singles box set. Don't waste your money here - even the cover bites....

What an enormous disappointment. Generic, mediocre songs; poor lyrics; hardly a lead guitar lick on the album. I really like this band, and am very sad to write this. A real waste of money. Go back and listen to Love, Electric and Sonic Temple and remember what a great band the Cult were at one time. Tragic, really.
